#MicroblogMondays 173: Spontaneous
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
I read a post that rang true for me about why introverts hate spontaneity. I am probably the least spontaneous person I know. If I went to Ollivanders, he’d hand me a wand that is made out of cement. Completely inflexible.
Of course I dipped into the comment section and there were people arguing that they are introverts who love spontaneity and the two aren’t mutually exclusive. Of course, they aren’t, but the original argument rang true for me. I need time to mentally psych myself up for interacting with people, and I need to know when I’m getting my downtime. I can’t commit to one without knowing the other.
So, do you like spontaneity? And are you introverted or extroverted? (Though I know someone will argue that we’re all a little of both.)

#MicroblogMondays 172: Coolest Store Ever
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
I have found my dream store.
It’s an Alice in Wonderland-themed store aimed at giving you a very Alice-like experience from the moment you attempt to enter the building. Yes, the Alice-themed store in Oxford sort of brings you into that Wool and Water world, but… not like this.
The issue is that this store is in Japan.
That is the problem with Atlas Obscura. It tells you about these really cool spaces in other parts of the world, and then crushes your heart when you realize that you may never get to experience it. It’s a store, after all, and by the time I make it to Tokyo, this place could be closed.
What cool spaces have you read about on the Internet that you want to visit?

#MicroblogMondays 171: Takers and Givers
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
I love Dungeons and Dragons. I haven’t played since high school, but I listen to other people’s games via YouTube, Twitch, or podcasts. Josh doesn’t see the joy in listening to someone else’s game, but you get the story AND you don’t need to do any of the work. I’m a listener not a contributor. A D&D taker but not a giver.
I don’t know why I don’t play since I clearly like listening to games. I guess that there are things I like to participate in and things I like to only observe. And while there are local or online D&D games I could join (and I sometimes feel a twinge of jealousy when other people tell me about their ongoing campaigns), I don’t.
What is one things you only like to observe but would never want to do?

#MicroblogMondays 170: The Twins’ Book
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
This week, three big boxes arrived in the mail: Author copies for the twins’ book, Hello, Scratch! I’ve been video taping each leg of the journey: telling them that they got the book deal, signing the contract, turning in the first chapter, receiving their first advance check. And now holding their own book.
The book will be released on Thursday, and we plan on taking a ride out to a bookstore to see it in its natural habitat. In the meantime, it’s the Deal of the Day that Thursday (that link will only connect to the book this upcoming Thursday) on the Manning site. And the twins are answering questions all week over on CodeRanch. Exciting times.
I think it’s extra sweet because they worked so hard for so long to get to this point. I think other kids are going to enjoy their book and learn how to program from it, but moreover, I think the twins learned that they could take an enormous project and break it down into manageable chunks and get the whole thing done.
An important lesson to learn.
P.S. It makes a fantastic holiday gift. Just saying.

#MicroblogMondays 169: Games
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
You know how I said on Friday that I’m not playing as many games anymore? I’m not. But I still manage to squeeze in a round or two of Desert Golf while I’m thinking during the day.
I would call it a bad habit, but I actually think it’s a good habit. Plus it takes about 30 seconds to do two boards.
I keep going back to the old, tried-and-true games: Desert Golf, Two Dots, 2048, Solitaire, Candy Crush, Merged. I like little puzzle games that you can pick up for a moment and play a few rounds and then walk away from for days and not feel guilty. Or word games — I love crossword puzzles.
So… recommendations? Because I want to cycle out some of these older games and put a few new ones in their place.
