#MicroblogMondays 168: CPR Party
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
I read about this great idea recently. You know how people host LuLaRoe and Stella & Dot parties? Well, this person helps you host a CPR party.
You get the friends together and put out some fun snacks, and they bring the trainers and dummies. Everyone in the room learns CPR. You go home with knowledge that could save another person’s life. Isn’t that brilliant?
Is it as thorough as a formal training? No. But any knowledge is better than no knowledge. It’s a little expensive considering our local hospital offers CPR classes for free, but it’s a cool idea for a social event.
Would you host a CPR/First Aid party?

#MicroblogMondays 167: Silence
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
The BBC had an article about a little while back about the cultural interpretations of silence. English speakers tend to panic when there is silence, whereas speakers of other languages see it “as a valuable moment of reflection and a sign of respect for what the last speaker has said.”
As I read it, I realized how much I like silence. I don’t like waiting for an answer any more than the next person but I like sitting with people in silence. I especially like driving in silence. And pauses in conversation are nice because they’re like a period at the end of a thought.
Are you comfortable with silence? How long would you let a pause go on in a conversation before you felt the need to fill it?

#MicroblogMondays 166: Sucking at Halloween
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
Another year, another lack of Halloween costume. Actually, I take that back; I dressed up as the TARDIS a few years ago, but I made the costume so I could wear my jeans and boots with it.
I have great intentions when it comes to dressing up and poor follow-through because I’m always cold. And I hate being cold. So I avoid wearing anything that may make me colder than I already am. I was thinking about going as Veronica from Heathers, but changed my mind once I remember that I would have to wear a skirt and stockings. I go for comfortable over clever every single time.
How do you choose your Halloween costume (or lack thereof?) Do you go for comfortable, or do you go for clever?

#MicroblogMondays 165: Choosing to Be Calm
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
I wrote a few days ago about a Marcus Aurelius stoicism quote about choosing not to be sad if something is distressing you, and I still stand by the lack of worth in the words once he mentioned that this idea is applicable to anything and everything.
But I also found an old Modern Mrs. Darcy post on the same idea, only applied to the small stuff. She mentions a friend whose husband was in a frustrating situation, and she said, “Eh, that’s life, she said. You can’t freak out about stuff like this. And she went on to explain that mix-ups like this happened to everyone at some time or another, and that’s just the way it is, and you have to decide to not get upset about it when it’s your turn.”
Your turn. Like if you think of it like jury duty, this is just your turn. Nothing you can do about it, so you might as well accept it and move on. I am terrible at this — the idea of just rolling with things — but this is an idea I can get behind while I reject Marcus Aurelius.
What do you think? Do you think people can actually choose calm when they’re frustrated?

#MicroblogMondays 164: Theater
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
If I really love a show, I’ll go and see it multiple times. I know there are people who love theater because of its fleeting nature, but I am someone who likes to re-read books and re-watch movies. The idea that something exists only for a short period of time and then disappears forever makes me anxious.
I combat that feeling by seeing the same play multiple times. I recently did that with a play I liked — Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights — and I meant to see a third time before it was gone forever. (Yes, I know they’re making it into a film, and there may be other productions in the future, but this particular one will be gone forever.) But it’s totally sold out, and I have a busy week. So no extra show for me. It makes me really sad to think that once it’s gone, it’s gone.
Do you like fleeting things like theater or do you prefer more permanent mediums like movies?
