New Ghosts
I laughed over the premise of this article because it’s true. Why do Victorian ghosts get to haunt buildings while modern ghosts are relegated to horror movies at best and utterly forgotten at worst?
You’re always hearing about old ghosts like this. A Civil War soldier, an old-timey nun, a sea captain who died when fishing boats were a new concept. They get all of the glory … What you don’t hear about, though, is newer ghosts. Ghosts who know who Obama is. Ghosts who had an iPhone … Why is that? Aren’t there newer ghosts?

Man…I just bought a Roku. Don’t tell me it’s going to annoy me.
We like to think of near misses in hazardous situations as our hauntings – my mom would tell us how our dad was riding on her bumper as she nearly got into an accident. And she was obviously messing with the KFC after her funeral – she would only eat white meat chicken. When we went to get a bucket of chicken at KFC after her funeral, it was closing time and all they had left were chicken breasts, so we got a bucket of those for no extra cost.
Then, during my husband’s funeral mass, which he hadn’t wanted (he said no services – I chose to let his mom have a funeral mass, but that was it), I say he expressed his displeasure by making it pour down rain the whole time we were in church, all the way to the cemetery, and all through the interment ceremony. Once everyone left, the sun came out. In my family, there are a lot of hauntings, but they’re the good kind, not the scary kind.
