Another Birthday
I was driving home a few weeks ago and suddenly couldn’t remember how old I was. Was I 47? 48? Simple math brought me to the correct year. A few days after that, someone said they were turning 50, and I thought, “50 is old.” And then realized I would be turning 50 in a few years, and it is my birthday this week.
Gulp.
I’m clearly having trouble with aging. I want to age in the sense that I don’t want the alternative, but I’m not really a fan of this aging thing. It ceases to be fun once you reach a certain point.
Or maybe you have to make it fun.
At some point, we’ll do a day trip to the beach and eat French fries for lunch and read books on the sand, a tradition we started when I turned 40. That will be good. And I’ll hopefully remember my age.
Happy birthday to me.

Happy birthday to you!
I am definitely not a fan of this aging thing – it absolutely sucks.
Happy Birthday!!! Yes, make it fun! Eating french fries and reading on the beach sound like an excellent plan.
I like aging psychosocially (I’m more confident and self-accepting and less anxious about myself), but I’m not a fan of the biological aspects (aching joints, upset stomach after I eat doughnuts). But, I have so many quilts I want to make! That keeps me excited for life.
Happy Birthday Mel!! The way you celebrate sounds like the only way to celebrate to me!! Hope you have a really great week, you deserve it!
Happy birthday! I love your beach and fries celebration. That is the kind of tradition I can get behind even if it’s connected to aging.
Happy, happy birthday to you, Mel!! Love the beach books and fries picnic. I hope you get observe your tradition and ENJOY!
Happy happy birthday to yoooooouuuuuu! Your birthday tradition sounds absolutely amazing. Also, Bryce routinely forgets how old he is… Started after 45. And yeah, 50 doesn’t seem that old anymore!
Happy, happy birthday, dear Mel! 🙂 Fries & books on the beach sounds fabulous. Getting older sucks sometimes, but there are compensations… dh just turned 65 and got his first Old Age Security cheque (!! — well, direct deposit…!) and he’s started getting seniors discounts left, right and centre. 😉 And, as my dear grandma always said, “Consider the alternative…!” 😉 lol Have a great day!
Happy birthday week dear Mel! I just think so highly of you! I know your heart will keep bringing more and more joy and goodness to your family and friends and to the world with every passing year. So this is something wonderful about aging.
Happy birthday, Mel! Books and fries and the sound of the surf – great tradition. I was freaked out about 50 too. Less so about 60 which is coming up this year … gulp. 50s aren’t so bad. There’s a certain freedom in getting older that is rather wonderful. I hope you find that.
