The Black Bear
There is a black bear wandering around our town. Every day, dozens of people post which neighbourhood he’s hanging out in, taking videos of the bear padding around their backyard or climbing into trees. And every day, I wish the bear would choose our house, would pad around our yard, would climb our trees.
We drove around the neighbourhood where he was spotted one morning, looping up and down the streets. But it was like whack-a-mole. When we went to that neighbourhood, he apparently wandered over to a nearby church where everyone put up videos of the bear near the church with messages like, “Guess who came to worship?” And by the time people posted that message, the bear had wandered away again.
I want a bear friend so badly.
I fear that he’ll leave town, and I’ll never get a chance to see him.

It seems safer if the bear avoids your neighborhood. I feel like you would go out to greet him and maybe give him a hug and then he would maul you for lunch. Maybe just enjoy your amorous squirrels?
We had a deer wandering through our yard yesterday. Then I took the dogs on a walk, and the deer was walking in the yards across the street. One of the dogs started barking at the poor deer, who was just minding her own business. I had to drag the dog back inside, since he wouldn’t stop being an idiot.
We live in a rural suburb. We have a lot of wildlife, including a neighborhood fox, lots of deer, bunnies, opossums. My husband set up an outdoor night cam by the little pond in our backyard and it catches all kinds of magic we would otherwise miss. Highly recommend this for your future bear and other animal sighting.
Oh wow, I would not be chasing down a bear. I’ve seen bear poop and footage of a bear in nearby towns, and had neighbors complain about destroyed bird feeders. Do you have a bird feeder? That seems to be bear bait.
