Your Brain + Time

A video to watch before reading the rest of this:

How cool is that? I ended up seeing the video after I read most the article on visual stability, so I knew what to look for when the video started. But I love this idea of our brain averages what it sees in multi-second intervals and delivers something close to that average so we can handle it.

It goes hand-in-hand with the changing room illusion:

I only noticed two things change in the whole room. How did you do?

I noticed a bunch of things changing in the room, although I couldn’t specifically pick all of them out. But then, I play hidden object games, and they always have a morphing object component, so I have some experience in looking for those!

I always appreciate the cool things that you share. I only noticed two things as well. It is amazing to see how many things actually did change. Woah.

Yep, I’m with you, I only noticed a few things changing. And felt that things had changed, but couldn’t tell you what. (Eg the rug) Though I could see the wine morphing into books. It was traumatising!

I think I noticed more things knowing that there were things to notice than if I’d gone in cold.
