International Blog Delurking Week 2022
It may or may not be International Blog Delurking Week. The first full week of January (January 2 – 8, 2022) is when we’re supposed to slither out of the reading closet and check in with an “I’m here” comment. I’m not sure if anyone does this anymore. Back in the olden days, people would pop up out of the woodwork. Nowadays, not so much.
So let’s see what happens.
So welcome to International Blog Delurking Week. I make a badge every year to mark the occasion, and I give you full permission to right click and grab it for your very own.
My reward for remembering to do this (when I could have just as easily forgotten) is that you have to delurk for this worldwide holiday, which is super serious and important. Right?
It is fairly easy. Leave a comment in the comment section below admitting that you’re here. You can simply raise your hand and meekly admit that you’re here with a simple, one-word “here” comment; or you can proudly raise your hand and tell us all a bit about yourself (my preferred method); or you can tell me the last good book you read (see, I’m trying to make it easy for you by even providing a comment prompt). The point is that I want to know about the people who read me, since there is a huge discrepancy between the number of readers in actuality and the number of readers I actually know are reading. Or a tongue-twister like that.
And that’s all you have to do to celebrate.

Not much of a lurker, but I’m here! It’s been a couple months since I read a book I’d recommend to anyone. But I did watch the TV adaptation of Anxious People on Netflix and enjoyed it. They did a decent job of sticking to the story in all the right ways.

So let’s talk about books. That’s more fun!
I recently read ‘The Paradox Hotel’ by Rob Hart, and it was a ride. I don’t usually enjoy time-travel stories, but he did a brilliant job of making it all make sense AND weaving real feelings into the sci-fi plot. I loved his novel ‘The Warehouse,’ too, if you’re looking for engaging, fast-moving reads.
I’m currently reading two novels at once, which I don’t usually do. I’m madly in love with ‘Unseen City’ by Amy Shearn. It’s about a librarian in Brooklyn who may or may not be haunted by her deceased sister and it weaves in another potentially haunted house. Despite that description, it’s got a buoyant air about it, and Meg, the librarian, is a delightful narrator. BUT it’s so good, i can’t read it before bed because I don’t want to go to sleep. So I’m also reading ‘The Murder of Roger Ackroyd’ by Agatha Christie because I’ve not read it before and it just popped into public domain.
Thus ends my book report 😉
Been here for…fifteen years? It’s got to be close to that anyway. I do have less time to comment than I used to but I still always read.

Recent book I loved: Wolf Winter by Cecilia Ekbäck.
I am currently reading Termination Shock by Neal Stephenson. It is thought provoking and fact-check-inducing (are there really feral hogs causing problems in Texas? the books is set a couple of decades into the future, but still….).
I am not yet sure how I feel about the book (specifically, the salt-of-the-earth-type folks with guns). Stephenson is really getting into climate change, rising sea levels, multiple round of pandemics and how humanity is dealing with all that. He writes so well and is very convincing – and I love all the scientific, historic, and economic details he puts in. Very well researched!

I’ve just been on a lovely walk, listening to the audiobook of Alan Cummings autobiography – read by the man himself, which makes it delicious. I’m pretty sure I have you to thank for that recommendation.
Bad Science (also an audiobook) was the last book I finished on a road trip last week. It was written in 2008 or thereabouts, but it is oh so relevant to today’s world.
I’m planning to do some reading this afternoon. Expected visitors are not now coming till tomorrow, so having made all the preparations yesterday, I now have a free afternoon.

My most recent favorite audiobook was Will Smith’s memoir, WILL, which he reads himself – a delight.
I’m a reader, not a blogger. I live in CO and have 6 yo twins. I think that is what drew me to your blog. I just read “The Last Flight” by Julie Clark and could not put it down. It is a suspense and I loved how the lives of the two women got intertwined. I wasn’t much of a reader (1-2 books a year) until my husband gave me a kindle for my birthday in June and I then read 10 books last year.

still here. was reading Brené Brown (The gifts of Imperfection) and she recommended to read The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho at least once a year. It sounds like it should be familiar. Like AnneB my husband gave me an e-reader for my birthday and it has really helped with reading. This way I do not notice how big the “pile” of books is, so I’m not discouraged before I even start.
In my mind I’m still a blogger, but I don’t even remember when I last posted anything. couple of years…

I’m here! I’ve been reading here a very long time….since the twins were in elementary school? Definitely before I was a parent. I came for infertility support and stayed for the interesting insights. My life is very different than yours (little kids instead of teens, brought up
Christian, carnivore, work outside the home, extroverted, dislike travel, not a fan of mysteries….😉) I have really come to appreciate the benefit of reading and considering all kinds of voices and perspectives. I do not blog, but I am happy to read them! I last read The Guncle by Steven Rowley. My favorite type of story, a serious theme of grief combined with a lot of humor and sweetness. And a gay guy in Palm Springs wearing caftans! The best!

My current book is Written in my Own Heart's Blood (8th book in the Outlander series) by Diana Gabaldon. As soon as I finish this one, I get to read the newest in the series. (My heart is swooning!!)
