Happy Haircut
I do not get haircuts often. As in, I feel like I’m really on top of things if I get one haircut per year. But when the cases started to tick up from omicron, the ChickieNob and I made a rash decision to grab two back-to-back appointments with our hairdresser and chop. it. off.
Okay, not all of it. But a lot of it.
We pulled masks tight over our face and told her that we were good with anything. “Three inches?” she asked. “Four inches?” Anything. Just be quick.
She trimmed a little over three inches off of both of our heads in under 15 minutes. We overtipped knowing we wouldn’t see her again for a while and ran home with the thought “What have I done?” echoing in my head.
But for the first time ever, I had a happy haircut. I showered and restyled my hair when I got home. It felt short — at my shoulders instead of down my back — but also lighter and less trouble. I didn’t realize how much my hair was weighing me down until it was gone.
Pictures coming soon when I have a day where I’m wearing it down vs. twisted in a knot.

Congratulations! Sounds great, and I look forward to seeing the pictures!
I enjoy having a bunch of hair chopped off my head. So, I usually go for a haircut every 12-18 months and go from halfway down my back to chin length. This year, the kid wanted her hair trimmed, so I got an inch or two cut off after only 6 months. It always makes me feel lighter…in weight and then subsequently in mood.
I did something similar…I had been cutting my own hair every few months since March 2020, then after California announced it was dropping the mask mandate June 15, I went to my usual place right before that happened. Cases were relatively low then. Turns out the haircut was kind of lousy. So, back to cutting my own hair not feeling like I’m missing anything. Plus my kids’. Husband has been cutting his own with clippers (after I made one attempt with questionable results on the back of his head 😂).
Ooh, I can’t wait to see the pics! I often think that a more medium length of “long hair” (IYKWIM) makes someone look so much fresher and more glam (eg my teenage niece has just lopped off about 6 inches and looks great) … and maybe you’ve described why – because you’re happier too.
