DoorDash Randomness
I opened the door to see if it was still raining, and there was a cup of bubble tea left on the top step with a plastic bag around it to protect it from the weather. A receipt was stapled to the bag with exactly zero pieces of helpful information. No name of the intended recipient. No address. Just the order details (bubble tea), the driver, and the cost ($10! For tea!).
Someone out there wanted a bubble tea badly enough to order it for delivery. And that person did not receive their bubble tea unless DoorDash sent them a new one.
It sat outside in the rain for five hours until Josh came home and disposed of it. I left it there in case someone roamed the neighbourhood, seeking their lost tea.

Our street, which lies entirely within our subdivision, is approximately 2 city blocks long. It is intersected by the street that enters the subdivision. Some fool involved in the design process decided to make an East and West version of the street that is 2 blocks long. So, we have 5 E and 5 W, 7 E and 7 W, 9E and 9W, 11 E and 11 W, and maybe 12 E and 12 W (all the houses on the even side of the streets are technically on the cross streets except for maybe 3. We get wrong deliveries aaalllll the time.
BUT THAT’S NOT ALL! There is someone with my address in the next town north of us too. I have twice had to redirect an appliance repair guy to the correct town.
No bubble tea, though.
That’s sad. Poor lost bubble tea. One of the big box stores by us used door dash to deliver orders during the pandemic. I had ordered a bunch of snacks for our local school but expected it to come UPS or FedEx. I got a call from the door dash driver saying he was there and I thanked him and said he had the wrong number. He left the cheez-its anyway, lucky for me. But I’ve never actually gotten someone else’s order – for a minute I wondered if someone sent you a treat, but they would have alerted you.
YES. And it actually greatly upset me. This was a few years ago before pandemic. I came home from the gym around 9 PM and there was a plastic takeout bag at our doorstep. I didn’t know what it was or why it was there. I quickly carried it with two fingers and put it in the trash bin outside. Then this happened a few more times-delivery drivers knocking on the door after my children’s bedtime. Finally one driver showed me his phone and what he was told for delivery and it turns out this the people from the nearby military facility were giving our address out to have food delivered to the gate of the military facility. Because there was no address for the military facility, and when they sit outside the gate, they saw our house and figure out our address was good to give out.. I was livid. I put a stop to this by contacting the local public relations person. But still. It’s very jarring to randomly get unknown packages of (maybe) food at your address, and people knocking on the door with deliveries, you didn’t order. And we live in a residential area. This isn’t like New York City where you might expect to see food delivered right and left. Cardboard boxes, maybe. And also, I couldn’t figure out who this person or people were that were apparently fine paying for things they didn’t get. Which made me worried that these random food orders were purposely sent our way, but why?
Our neighbor regularly receives other people’s orders because no one seems to want to go past the first circle in our street…it’s sort of bizarre. They also get UPS and fed ex; it’s as if they’re the distribution center for our neighborhood.
