#Microblog Monday 353: PCOS and COVID-19
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
On the “this doesn’t sound good” front: there seems to be a connection between PCOS and COVID-19. Namely, women with PCOS are at higher risk if they contract COVID-19. This quote says it all:
“‘PCOS is completely underestimated in its impact. It’s sort of seen as some reproductive issue that is not clinically relevant. But this is completely wrong … Patients need to be seen as a high-risk population,’ said Dr. Wiebke Arlt.”
In other words, women’s health is being swept under the rug yet again: “Despite how common PCOS is, as well as the serious complications it can come with, health experts say the condition has long been overlooked, misunderstood and under-researched, leaving patients to advocate for themselves or even educate practitioners to get treatment.”
If you have PCOS, read the CNN article. Cristy sent me the link, and I’ve now seen the news in a few places this week.

#Microblog Monday 352: Cicada Bat Mitzvah
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
It was just the 34th anniversary of my Bat Mitzvah. I know this because my Bat Mitzvah fell during the 17-year cicadas in 1987. Back then, due to the fact that there was no Internet and they didn’t cover the 17-year cicadas in Teen Beat magazine, I did not know they were coming until they were here.
Imagine my horror when I looked out the window of the car and saw the trees covered in cicadas crawling over each other, making the bark look like it was pulsating. And with no warning, I was going to have to run from said car into shul in my one-inch heels.
Though I imagine Bat Mitzvah girls this year are thinking, “You think you had it bad with just cicadas? I have to read Torah in a mask and project over the noise of the cicadas. You don’t know how good you had it.”
Fair point.

#Microblog Monday 351: First Day of the Week
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
I recently learned that in the US, Sunday is considered the first day of the week. Which is funny because the days of the week in Hebrew are literally “first day,” “second day,” “third day,” etc. And Sunday is Yom Rishon or “first day.” But even with that linguistic fact, I’ve always thought of Monday as the first day.
I purposefully chose a calendar that has the week set up as Monday to Sunday so it fit my mental counting of the first day of the week.
What do you consider the first day of the week, and do you match up with your country??

#Microblog Monday 350: Thinking About Death
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
I am all for normalizing death—it is a part of life—but I’ve been trying to wrap my brain around the idea of thinking about death five times per day, an idea from Bhutanese culture.
More, I’m thinking about whether you can take a practice out of one culture and drop it into another and get the same results. Despite that, I thought this video was fascinating.
What is your reaction?

#Microblog Monday 349: Deep Nostalgia Pictures
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
I read about deep nostalgia pictures on My Heritage. They are animations of your old images, so you can see people in motion. Perhaps you have an ancestor you never got to meet, or you don’t have video footage of someone who died when you were young. You can animate the image and get a sense of what they were like when they were alive.
Which sounded all kinds of amazing, and I have old photos that I would love to do this with. But I decided to start with a picture of myself to create a base. If the picture felt like a video of myself, I would upload some older images.
But it didn’t. It didn’t look or move like me at all. To be sure (since it can be hard to judge your own face), I asked Josh and he gave a hard no. It didn’t capture me. It felt like my features plastered over someone else’s features.
So a disappointment, but it would have been amazing if it worked.
