#Microblog Monday 354: Kouign-Amman

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

Josh brought home croissants from a nearby bakery and took an additional pastry out of the bag. “It’s kind of how I imagine a cronut,” he said, and he proceeded to eat this sweet, buttery, doughnut-sans-hole confection. He gave me a bite, and it was amazing.

The next time he went to the bakery, I told him to pick me up a cronut-that-is-not-a-cronut. It hit me while he was out that the thing may be the fattest pastry in the world—a kouign-amman from Brittany—and I asked him to check the sign in the case. Sure enough, that’s what it was. And it tastes better than I even imagined. It was like dozens of layers of love.

What is the best thing you’ve eaten recently?

Are you also doing #MicroblogMondays? Add your link below. The list will be open until Tuesday morning. Link to the post itself, not your blog URL. (Don’t know what that means? Please read the three rules on this post to understand the difference between a permalink to a post and a blog’s main URL.) Only personal blogs can be added to the list. I will remove any posts that are connected to businesses or are sponsored post.

This looks DELICIOUS.

Best thing I’ve eaten recently? Our favorite Mexican restaurant has the most delicious tacos. These aren’t your typical ground-beef-and-crispy-corn-shell tacos: they have many varieties, including some vegetarian options. Yum!

I had my first kouign-anman post-op from my IVF retrieval many years back. The bakery was around the corner from the RE clinic so my husband went to get me breakfast while I was in surgery. I was groggy coming off anesthesia and wondered what the heavenly pastry was that I was eating. We went back many times over the years. I associate them with a delicious treat that helped get me through the hardest time of my life.

Waaah! I haven’t had a queen iman since the before times!!!! *sobs* I mean kouign anman. We have to go to the city to get them. (Also: TJ’s carries/carried them in the freezer section, at least in the before times, but they’re not as good as the bakery version.)

Best thing I’ve eaten recently: Gardein’s new Ultimate Chik’n Filets. I already loved Gardein stuff, but these are out of this world yummy.

Oh wow, that pastry sounds divine! Should I try and make it, I wonder, as the scale in the bathroom shouts “NO!” lol

I had a sticky date pudding recently, which was very yummy, and I’m planning on trying to make my own sometime this week. Winter is perfect for sticky puddings!

Oh, the best thing I’ve eaten recently is this seemingly unusual kiwi salad https://www.salon.com/2021/07/17/why-nadiya-hussains-kiwi-and-feta-salad-is-genius_partner/ by Nadiya Hussain of Great British Bakeoff fame. We liked it so much we got one of her cookbooks and I want to make everything in it.

I’ve been wanting to go to the local new-ish Food Hall downtown for a long time and especially have been wanting to try Cousin’s Maine Lobster roll with lemon and butter. It was amazing. The only thing— each roll wasn’t more than a couple of bites. We spent a lot of money, which is of course expected with lobster– and left starving!

I am…bored of food. Nothing sounds good. I don’t want to make anything. I don’t want to buy anything. Everything I eat is boring. (I did get some pizza that was really good when we were in Chicago. But now I’m back in boring food land. I think I need to start eating out again.)
