#Microblog Monday 358: Rouge Your Knees

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

I was this many weeks old when I learned what “rouging your knees” means. I knew it from that opening song in Chicago, but I literally thought it meant applying rouge to knees. Which sounded odd, but to each their own.

Then I found out that while it started as blush, back in 1920’s, women PAINTED THEIR KNEES. As in, they painted flowers and little faces on their knees to get people to notice their short dress.

We need to bring this back.

Are you also doing #MicroblogMondays? Add your link below. The list will be open until Tuesday morning. Link to the post itself, not your blog URL. (Don’t know what that means? Please read the three rules on this post to understand the difference between a permalink to a post and a blog’s main URL.) Only personal blogs can be added to the list. I will remove any posts that are connected to businesses or are sponsored post.

Well…I was clearly way off…

I was guessing “rouge your knees” meant to make them red (blush) from being down on your knees…HAH ooops.

I never knew that! Though, to your suggestion to bring it back, I’ll respond with a classic kiwi colloquialism.
“Yeah … Nah!”

I had no idea!! I’ve heard that during WWII women would rub makeup on their legs to simulate wearing nylons/stockings, and use a pencil to draw seams up the back, but this is a new one!

Also, I’ve heard about “rolled stockings” from the 20s and there they were in the photos too.

I bought some really expensive lingerie when I was first married and wore a garter belt with stockings under a dress to a wedding. I was terrified they were going to come undone all evening long. Now I understand why we wear pantihose (if anything, lol — I rarely wear that these days too, even to weddings). 😉

For the record, my daughter is ALWAYS drawing on her knees … (!!!)
