#Microblog Monday 362: 3% of the Air

*******
There was an opening to a recent Atlantic article that left me stunned (and grossed out) even though it made complete sense in retrospect:
Before you read any further, take a long, slow, deep breath. Congratulations! If you’re sitting in a typical American home, office building, or school, about 3 percent of the air you breathed in recently came out of the lungs of the people in the room with you right now.
I mean, yes, I clearly knew that the air in my lungs wasn’t pristine air that had never been inside another human being. But… it’s one thing to hold it in the back of my head and another to really consider the implications.
As someone who is against cup sharing or eating off another person’s fork, I was squicked out to think about this.

#Microblog Monday 361: Phobias

I read about an AR app that gets people over their fear of spiders by using exposure therapy with a virtual spider.
What a cool first step—because I doubt it’s the final step… even though the app apparently has ten steps. It asks questions to see how comfortable you are before moving you up or down a level. Though I wonder how it translates into fears of real world spiders. Your brain knows that it’s an AR spider, so while you may grow more comfortable, is it enough to translate into calm if there was an actual spider in your home?
I would love to see this expanded for other fears.

#Microblog Monday 360: I Don’t Have a Lucky Meal
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
Cup of Jo asked if you have a lucky meal. A lucky meal? Like a meal we eat when we need good luck? How would that work? Like the food would somehow signal to the universe that we need X to happen? That’s a bizarre thought. Food can’t do that. Unlike my lucky socks, which can and do influence the universe.
We have recurring meals—rigatoni pomodorini makes it into the rotation at least once every two weeks. And during the pandemic, we’ve indulged in tacos from Tuesday all the way through Friday (always different kinds) because… mood. But we don’t think these meals will do anything more than make us feel good for thirty minutes when the world doesn’t feel good. So not really lucky.
But it made me want a lucky meal; something I could eat and believe that it would change the course of events.

#Microblog Monday 359: Pumpkin Spice Free

The wave of pumpkin spice products are out in full force, and the pandemic has made me realize that you don’t need to leave home to be overexposed to it. The ads will find you.
Pumpkin spice instant noodles may have been my tipping point.
I am not anti-pumpkin spice, but I would never seek it out. I considered myself pumpkin spice neutral. But as more and more products go over to the pumpkin side, I may have stepped over the line onto the anti-pumpkin spice side. It’s not who I want to be, but it is what it is.

#Microblog Monday 358: Rouge Your Knees
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
I was this many weeks old when I learned what “rouging your knees” means. I knew it from that opening song in Chicago, but I literally thought it meant applying rouge to knees. Which sounded odd, but to each their own.
Then I found out that while it started as blush, back in 1920’s, women PAINTED THEIR KNEES. As in, they painted flowers and little faces on their knees to get people to notice their short dress.
We need to bring this back.
