#Microblog Monday 372: Trader Joe’s Person
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

I’ve never really understood the allure of Trader Joe’s. I’m someone who likes consistency, so the idea of a system in which favourite products come and go in the store isn’t something that makes me happy. Prior to the pandemic, I probably went two or three times per year and bought a few items.
Mostly tea.
But since the pandemic began, I find myself drawn more and more to picking up treats at Trader Joe’s. Our latest find: Bamba stuffed with hazelnut creme. I’m aware that it’s just Osem Bamba in a different package. I don’t care. I’ve changed. I’ve become a Trader Joe’s person.

#Microblog Monday 371: Combining Bookshelves
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

It took us 20 seconds of conversation to choose whether to combine finances but it has been over 20 years, and we still haven’t fully integrated our bookshelves. We also haven’t completely de-duped our shelves. When the twins were little, they liked to play match-up with our duplicates. They would touch one spine on one bookcase and then touch the identical spine on another bookcase. Two copies of Dubliners by James Joyce. Two copies of every A. B. Yehoshua.
A few years ago, we attempted to de-dupe, but I dragged a bunch of copies out of the donate pile. (It’s good to have two Anne Enrights! What if we both need to read it at the same time?) We also attempted to integrate without much success. Four bookcases are fully mine. Two bookcases are mostly Josh. Three bookcases are a mix, though the books run in clumps — three of mine followed by fours of Josh’s followed by a few more of mine. Our books hang out together, but they’re just friends.
The stacks of books behave in similar ways, almost like they learned how to behave from the books on the shelves.

#Microblog Monday 370: Retro Radio

If you are a fan of retro re-creations and music and the world, then you will probably like Radiooooo, the musical time machine.
You choose the decade, you choose the country, and then you listen to what was on the radio during that time. I went back and forth through time in Israel and found new (to me) songs.
Enjoy!

#Microblog Monday 369: Another Good Game

If you liked last week’s word game, you may also like this one.
Every day, you guess a word. The computer tells you whether your word comes before or after the word of the day. For instance, you may guess “milk,” and if the word is higher in the alphabet than “milk,” it will put the word above the blank box. And if the word is lower than “milk,” it will put the word below the blank box.
Then you guess another word and another word. I know it sounds like it will take a million years to guess the word, but it usually takes me about 6 minutes and between 15 – 20 guesses. Which is kind of cool when you think about how you can zero in on the correct word pretty quickly just knowing that it’s before or after a certain word.

#Microblog Monday 368: AI Readers

Publishers Weekly has an article on AI audiobooks — books read by computers rather than human actors.
I get that it’s expensive and difficult to create audiobooks, but I can’t imagine books without inflection and careful pauses to draw meaning. The ChickieNob and I are listening to the audiobook of Good Omens right now, and the actor transports you into the story with a unique voice for each character. I can’t imagine AI will ever be able to capture that warmth. At least, not today’s AI.
Do you think you’d enjoy a book read by AI?
