#Microblog Monday 412: A Fun Way To Search

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

What if you could talk to the books in the bookstore and have them spill their wisdom? Wouldn’t that make a great basis for a story? Google (I think it’s Google) set up a way to search books just like that. You ask the books a question in the search bar, and it returns quotes from books that are part of Google Books. Isn’t that brilliant?

I asked it: “What should I do with my empty nest?”

And it returned this nugget: “You know how to create. Build a new nest. In the south.” Zero chance of that, but see what answers the books give your questions.

I think I found this on A Strong Sense of Place, which makes sense because… travel. It’s a fun tool if you have two locations and you want to know what you’ll pass along the way. I’ve used it for two points in our area to see what is around me, and I’ve put in a common road trip we take to see what is along the way.

It kind of does make your drive fun as the name proclaims.

And I’m totally bummed that we went right by the oldest hat shop in the world this summer and didn’t even know it.

#Microblog Monday 410: A Narnia Closet

A book blogger linked to this post about how a person turned an unused space into a reading nook but gave it an entrance like the wardrobe in the Narnia books. Scroll down through the pictures and see how her kid enters.

I WANT THIS.

We have maybe one closet where this would work — where we could put a wardrobe in front of the opening and enter the closet and have enough room to sit and read. It would be dark inside. But cozy. It kind of feels like the perfect use for a space.

#Microblog Monday 409: Feeling Far Away

I had a random thought last week that we should take the ChickieNob back to London to be there on the street during the funeral. The Wolvog loves London because he loves cities, but the ChickieNob has felt isolated about having big feelings about Queen Elizabeth while being surrounded by people who do not have big feelings about Queen Elizabeth. We’d all go over to support ChickieNob and give her that closure.

But the cost of a last minute ticket would be over $2000 per person.

So funeral on television instead. Our body is in the US this morning. Our heart is in the UK.

#Microblog Monday 408: Uncomfortable

These deliberately terrible designs made me laugh. I mean, it also made me think about how much goes into good design — especially things that seem simple and straightforward on the surface but could clearly be otherwise. But mostly, they made me laugh.

My favourite was probably the uncomfortable wine glass.
