#MicroblogMondays 72: One Extra Year
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
A few months ago, Gizmodo asked a question in a post: how much would you pay to live one extra year? With expensive life-extending drugs a possibility, how much should we consider spending in order to grab another year? And who should foot the bill? And who gets the limited supply of drugs? Will this be the latest division of class: those who can afford the extra time and those who have to make do with the time allotted? It’s already the case with treatments for common diseases.
But if you strip away all the questions about medications and the worth of certain lives more than others, it comes down to a thought-provoking question. If you were decently comfortable and mobile, how much would you pay for an additional year of life? Is it worth take out a second mortgage or borrowing money that your loved ones will pay back? What number is too high when it comes to grabbing time? And is there any way you could walk away from that choice if it was possible to make?
The question chilled me to my core.

#MicroblogMondays 71: Ideal House
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
I want to live in a hobbit hole. Mental Floss recently had an article about a manufacturer of prefabricated homes that are covered in sod and look like hobbit holes. Though I realized looking at the houses that what I want isn’t the outside of the hobbit hole but the inside.
I like small, cozy spaces with lots of room for shelving books neatly (so they can be found quickly). I like squashy chairs and throw blankets and wood. I want a little bed like this for nap time. (Actually, does anyone remember a few years ago that there was a picture of a bed like this — a frame that had books inside — that we were all covetously passing around the Internet? I can’t find the bed of my dreams despite a lot of keyword Googling.)
What is your ideal home?

#MicroblogMondays 70: Resolutions
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
It feels like I should be making a resolution this week. Setting a goal. Giving myself a focus for the year. I did it last year, and that worked well. But I haven’t come up with one. There is plenty I would change about myself, but I highly doubt that I would be successful in changing those things. So why dedicate the time and energy to something that is essentially Sisyphean in nature? It’s hard to change a personality.
I do question why we always have to be working to change ourselves. Why can’t we ever be happy with the status quo? Why isn’t it okay to say, “You know, I don’t have any resolutions this year because there is nothing I need to work on. I’m happy as is.”
Because… it isn’t. We live in a self-help culture. We’re always supposed to be looking at ourselves with a critical eye and then working on… something. If we’ve got time to lean, we’ve got time to clean. Or something like that.
Are you making a resolution this year? What is it?
Like last year, “peruse the list and see if there are any resolutions you can help someone else reach. Know what they want to learn? Give them some tips to get started. Have a great piece of advice that helped you reach the same resolution in the past? Pass it their way. Consider it crowdsourcing the springboard to get your resolution going.”

#MicroblogMondays 69: Best Christmas Ever
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
So. What are you doing for Christmas? Are you traveling or hosting or doing a small celebration at home? Did you decorate or skip it this year? And if you decorated, do you have Christmas lights on your house? I love those. Do people turn them off when they go to bed, or do you leave them on all night?
I sort of think of them like a lighthouse, keeping lonely drivers company on the road.
If this Christmas is not your best Christmas, then what has been your best Christmas ever up until this point? What made it so memorable?
Living vicariously through all of you and by watching Love Actually.

#MicroblogMondays 68: Still Cute?
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
We recently rewatched Back to the Future with the twins because we’ve been playing LEGO Dimensions and there is a Back to the Future level. The ChickieNob informed me that Michael J Fox was not that cute, which caused me to gasp and sputter.
Michael J Fox is cute, alright? He was cute then and he’s cute now. He’s cute. Case closed.
But she did make me roll out my long list of childhood crushes, and most of them either haven’t aged particularly well or when I go back and look at pictures of their younger selves, I don’t see what I saw at the time. Meaning, I don’t know why I thought they were cute.
Do you still think your childhood crushes are cute?
