#MicroblogMondays 77: The Peak/Peek
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
Though we’ve known about the theater production of The Cursed Child for a while (and my friend has tickets; she has tickets, people!), the Internet lost their mind over the announcement that JK Rowling would be releasing the script in bound form. Will I buy it? Yes, because all of our money is earmarked to be given to JK Rowling. But no, I have not preordered it yet, nor have a lost my mind.
There are some people who do not want to read the script because they feel like the series ended so neatly back in Book 7 (save for the years into the future chapter), and to return to these characters is to ruin something. Harry is forever 17, surrounded by his friends after ridding the world of its greatest evil. Who wants to peek at a middle aged Harry Potter with a beer gut and receding hairline? At the same time, who wants to imagine that our beloved Harry Potter peaked in high school? That after all of that excitement, he has lived a fairly tame married life, has kids, reads the newspaper? Anything other than fighting the Dark Lord with the whole wizarding world behind him is a bit of a letdown.
But will I read it? Hells yeah. It’s sort of like Facebook: I don’t really want to think of all of us as middle aged, but I like peeking at old classmates to see how they turned out.
Do you want to know what happened to Harry Potter years down the road, or are you happy to keep him 17 forever?

#MicroblogMondays 76: Chickpea Rage
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
My current biggest non-dangerous pet peeve (to differentiate the annoying from the dangerous, such as texting and driving) is people who call something hummus that doesn’t have chickpeas.
The word “hummus” means chickpea. How can you have hummus without chickpeas? That’s like saying this is a delicious coffee made with tea. It isn’t coffee then; it’s tea. And hummus without chickpeas is some other bean spread.
This ire isn’t even aimed at people who put stuff in their hummus. I mean, I personally won’t eat bizarro hummus with ingredients beyond tehini and garlic, but if people want to use chickpeas as a base and add stuff to it, go ahead. But I just read yet another site that said, “No chickpeas, no problem! Try this delicious hummus made with edamame.”
NOOOOOOO.
Got that out of my system. So what is your annoying (non-dangerous) pet peeve?

#MicroblogMondays 75: Restaurant Ordering
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
A few years back, Lifehacker had an article about letting your friends order for you. This idea not only horrified me enough to bookmark the post, but it has stuck with me since then, turning around in my brain every time I meet a friend at a restaurant.
Are you kidding? Order for me? I barely know what I want, and I have full access to my tastebuds and brain. How can someone who isn’t me know what I want to eat?
And I would never want to order for someone else. How could I possibly know what they’re in the mood to eat unless they tell me? And if they’re telling me, they can order for themselves.
Would you ever let someone choose what you’re going to eat at a restaurant?

#MicroblogMondays 74: Bibliotherapists
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
Mental Floss recently had an article about bibliotherapists. They are support staff for therapists who recommend books with the understanding that a book can sometimes change your mood or help you see a situation in a new way or simply transport you somewhere else for a few hours. Mental Floss explains,
Patients fill out a questionnaire about their reading habits and issues they might be having, and get a prescription for something that speaks to their specific set of circumstances.
I kind of love this idea, though I don’t know how I would feel about going to a bibliotherapist. I love getting book recommendations, but I sort of balk at being told what to read.
What do you think? Do you enjoy being told what to read?

#MicroblogMondays 73: Dynamints!
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
Back when we were little, my grandparents would take us to the A&P and buy us Dynamints and Fruit Stripe gum. Dynamints were suppository-sized Tic Tacs that came in a three-flavour pack: grape (which was the best flavour), orange, and cherry. Not only were they a delicious candy, but it was fun to shake the box and annoy everyone around you.
I really miss Dynamints. I don’t think they make them anymore.
I’m also missing root beer flavoured and Stick-o-Pep Lifesavers.
What candy or former food product do you miss?
