#MicroblogMondays 138: Easter
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
Linus’s breeder announced that she has a few new guinea pig babies that will be ready for homes in the next month. There is something about hearing this news coupled with Easter and the onslaught of baby animal pictures that is making me open up an email to her and then close it without sending.
I want another guinea pig. I don’t want another guinea pig.
Maybe I just want a Cadbury egg. The ice cream shop at the beach posted a picture of sweet cream ice cream with chunks of Cadbury egg, drizzled with caramel.
Are you off for Easter? Are you doing anything good with your day off?

#MicroblogMondays 137: Picking Prizes
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
The ChickieNob beat me in cards, and I told her that she could pick the prize. She narrowed it down to a Buffy soundtrack or a Buffy episode, but that was as far as she got.
We talked about it a lot, and I pointed out that it was a pretty low stakes decision. She could (1) play me in cards again and probably beat me a second time (if not on the first try then some point in the future) and (2) she had the money to buy herself the soundtrack AND the episodes. But she still couldn’t make up her mind. It was like knowing she had a prize was even better than choosing the prize.
The Wolvog is the same way. It is so hard for him to choose what he wants to do when we go hang out somewhere, even when I promise him that it’s a low stakes decision: we can go out again the next week and do something different.
As someone who held onto a massage gift certificate for years because knowing I had it was better than using it, I get it. The apples didn’t fall far from this neurotic tree.
Do you like to choose prizes (or use gifts) quickly or hold onto them indefinitely?

#MicroblogMondays 136: The Books I Haven’t Read
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
The Paperback Princess had such an interesting post about the books she hasn’t read. It was really hard to come up with my “not read” list because I also have a problem remembering what I have read. For instance, I started listing out books and then realized that I not only owned the book but my handwriting is all over the inside of said book. So… thinking I read those ones.
But I definitely haven’t read Middlemarch, Naked Lunch, Atlas Shrugged, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, Tropic of Cancer, or any of the Outlander books. And with the exception of Heart is a Lonely Hunter, I also have no intention of reading any of these books.
How about you? What haven’t you read that you probably should have gotten to by now?

#MicroblogMondays 135: Decorations
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

I am not a fan of decorating. We are not tchotchke purchasers. We do not like flourishes. Instead of operating from a place of “that’s beautiful,” I come from a space of “that’s not ugly.” I like things plain. Plain, plain, plain, plain, plain.
I am not enjoying bathroom renovation decisions.
Some people love going to open houses to see how other people decorate their homes. Or peruse home goods catalogues. Or watch decorating shows on television. I do not do any of these things. If we had the money, I would pass off this decision-making process to a decorator. I would tell him/her, “Aim for plain. Think boring and then take it one step beyond that.”
Do you like to decorate?
P.S. We are moving from the steampunk bathroom idea toward a more spa look. The Edison lightbulbs hurt my eyes.

#MicroblogMondays 134: Fish Love
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
I read an interesting thought from Abraham Twerski (The Enemy Within). It was part of a larger commentary on self-love; not in the positive sense, but in the “putting yourself before others” sense:
The Rebbe of Kotzk noticed a young man thoroughly enjoying a dish of fish. “Why are you eating fish?” the Rebbe asked.
The young man responded, “Why? Because I love fish, that’s why.”
“So it was your love for the fish that caused you to take it from the water, kill it and cook it! If you really loved the fish, you would have let it live. Do not delude yourself, young man. What you really love is yourself, and because the fish satisfies your palate, you eat it.”
A fitting thought considering the political climate where so many of us are the fish, and we’re being told that work is being done to make our lives better when we feel like we’re being devoured, all for someone else’s enjoyment. It’s words not matching up with actions.
Chew on that.
