#Microblog Monday 253: Bad Movie Club

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

Back in college, my friends and I had a bad movie club. Everyone went to the video store and chose what they thought would be the worst movie. And then we’d watch them back-to-back all night, and vote at the end over who had done the best job choosing the worst film. This is how I saw four of the nine Children of the Corn movies.

Bad films are in the eye of the beholder. People hate my favourite film: Jeffrey. Maybe it’s not my favourite film anymore, but it was for a very long time, and it’s exactly for this reason: catharsis. I cry so hard watching that film/play. I was horrified when someone labeled it a bad film. Bad film? It is my favourite film. How can it be bad? I feel the same way about Love, Actually. I know it makes some people throw up in their mouth, but I love watching it every winter.

Spill: what is your favourite “bad” film?

#Microblog Monday 252: Ásatrú

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

I love reading about other religions. The BBC recently had a piece about the fastest growing religion in Iceland, a combination of Norse mythology and ecology guiding the practice:

The blót had been organised by the Ásatrú Association of Iceland, a pagan faith group that is currently one of the country’s fastest growing religions, having almost quadrupled its membership in a decade, albeit from a low base of 1,275 people in 2009 to 4,473 in 2018.

It sounds like a wonderful group:

Although the Ásatrú Association has no doctrine as such, it does promote virtuous behaviour. “It’s about being honest, upright and tolerant,” Hilmarsson said. “Respect for nature is also important. You have to make sure you live in harmony with nature.”

I mostly like the idea of new ideas and ways of navigating the world popping up. That religion or art or literature or [name your favourite way to process the world] is ever-changing.

#Microblog Monday 251: How Do You Decide What to Reread?

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

I am aware that there are many people who do not reread books or rewatch television shows or movies. I am not one of those people. I love rereading books, and research backs up my assertion that rereading (or rewatching) is just as enjoyable as the first time. So there.

The question, of course, is how do you decide? There are some books that I know as I’m reading it (or shows that I know as I’m watching them) that I’m going to want to read again and again, even before I know the ending. And others that I enjoy so much the first time around, but I also know that I probably won’t seek them out a second time.

I think it comes down to characters I want to spend time with. As in, if they were real people, I would want to hang out with them.

What about you?

#Microblog Monday 250: Breakfast

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

While I am totally aware that every culture and country has a different list of foods that it counts as “breakfast” foods, I was not aware that Americans have the narrowest definition of breakfast items. That fact listed in the dek isn’t really backed up with a numerical count of every country and its breakfast items, but sure, let’s go with it.

I have the same breakfast every day. A container of yogurt. That is my favourite breakfast. If we’re having breakfast out, I tend to go for eggs first and French toast second and anything else third. I’m not the biggest fan of pancakes, though I’ll eat them if I make them. And I love a good crepe, but few non-crepe places serve crepes here.

And I loooooove breakfast for dinner. In fact, that’s what I think we’ll have tonight.

What do you have for breakfast? And are breakfast foods kept at breakfast time?

#Microblog Monday 249: No Plant Chose Me

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

If I worked in this office, no plant would choose me to be their friend because they would immediately pick up on the fact that I don’t like them. Even if they were a flowering plant. Actually, especially if they were a flowering plant. I dislike flowers, too, especially when they’re brought into a building as cut-flowers or a flowering plant.

I would be irritated beyond all get-out if I had to take care of a plant.

But an office pet? THAT I would be all over. If my boss gave everyone a hamster or a turtle to live on their desk and care for every day? I would be a very happy employee. Animals = happiness. Plants = irritation.

How do you feel about plants?
