#Microblog Monday 268: Cocooning

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

I feel like I’m entering a period of cocooning. I feel myself getting quieter and quieter, standing back and observing without feeling completely a part of things. I don’t feel the impulse to write — instead I have to convince myself that I want to sit down and type up a post. I don’t have an impulse to scroll.

If I let it happen, I know I emerge out the other side feeling more talkative, more engaged, more connected to the people and world around me. I feel a need, once again, to write. A need to check in on Facebook and see what people are doing.

If I fight it, I just feel like crap. So I’m letting myself cocoon a bit and observe. We’ll see what I notice this time.

Do you ever feel yourself pulling back and inward?

Are you also doing #MicroblogMondays? Add your link below. The list will be open until Tuesday morning. Link to the post itself, not your blog URL. (Don’t know what that means? Please read the three rules on this post to understand the difference between a permalink to a post and a blog’s main URL.) Only personal blogs can be added to the list. I will remove any posts that are connected to businesses or are sponsored post.

Oh yes, quite often. It’s a good thing, I think. It gives you space to come back refreshed and stronger.Take care of yourself.

I do. I have periods where I feel overwhelmed and have to just step back, but I agree with you–if you honor it, you come out refreshed and better for the pause. I hope you enjoy your cocoon time!

Raising both hands here. I find the quiet periods to be necessary, as often I need to be absorbing the chatter around me, not participating. It can be a double-edge sword as getting back into writing can be hard after this period, but ultimately I’ve found it to be necessary and beneficial.

I love that you’re willing to let this experiment play out and observe how things go.

I’m thinking (don’t know for sure, though) that ayurveda would say it’s time for humans to feel the need to cocoon. I find it’s always beneficial to live in harmony with the cycles of nature.

I feel like this sometimes too. Usually for me it seems to come after I’ve been expending a lot of energy and been around people for a little too long.

I go into my shell too in phases, and emerge more productive. When I’ve invested too much into people, situations, and life in general, I like to withdraw, heal and return rejuvenated.

Call me reclusive, at that point of time, but that cocoon assists in wonderful transformations.

Nature is a true example of such transformations. A cocoon always leads to a pretty butterfly!

oh yes I have phases like this too. Sometimes everything is just too much and I need to regroup before I can re-engage with the world

I don’t think I’ve ever thought of it as “pulling back” but sure, we all have times in the ebb and flow of life when we are more engaged or more of an observer. I don’t think either of these times is bad, they’re just a normal part of our rhythm. As for Facebook, I’m better off if I never go on. I only get stressed out with all of the nonsense so I post about my blog page and then run like hell.

Yes! Yes! In fact, I wish I could just “turn off” the world at this moment and pull in. I’ve mastered tuning out in the midst of noise and chaos, but lately, I’ve just needed to completely pull in and away…but of course, that’s impossible. :-/ And you’re right, when we do take these opportunities, we emerge stronger, clearer, more focused.
