#Microblog Monday 508: Like Exchange

There was a story/idea going around the Internet a few weeks ago about trip planning Google Doc exchanges; these detailed Google Docs that people compile and trade with recommendations for various cities.

And it sounded like a great idea if you knew the person and knew you traveled similarly. For instance, I know someone who likes to go to vineyards when they travel. We don’t drink. So, a Google Doc with vineyard recommendations wouldn’t be helpful. But someone who loves historical sites and weird finds? That would be a fantastic exchange.

But then I realized I could get that without a Google Doc simply by checking out Rick Steves’ itinerary coupled with Atlas Obscura.

What do you think? Would you use a stranger’s Google Doc?

#Microblog Monday 507: Loop Around

One of the more annoying features of the US health system — and I’m sure the same is true in other countries — is that you need to wait at least one year from your last visit for certain appointments. So if you go on October 14, next year, your appointment has to be after October 15. The year after that, October 16, and so on. You cannot go October 14 this year, and go October 13 next year.

Of course, weekends and appointment openings mean that your yearly visit may get pushed very far off-course. Add in that the twins now live far from their doctor, which means their annual wellness visits have been moved to school breaks.

The visit this year is currently set almost six months beyond the year mark, and I realized that the visit after that will likely not happen at all. We’ll loop around back to summer and start the cycle over.

It would be lovely if you could call into insurance, explain the situation, and reset the timeline. Big plans for when I rule the world.

#Microblog Monday 506: Rabbit Hole Detectives

I found the Rabbit Hole Detectives podcast because the three podcasters have a book coming out in October that we’re ordering from Blackwell’s. I am not a podcast person and only listen to The Handsome Podcast, but I downloaded a few episodes and am completely hooked.

It’s Reverend Richard Coles (I adore his mystery books, too), Dr Cat Jarman, and Charles Spencer (as in Princess Diana’s brother). Each week, they go down the rabbit hole on three different topics and present their best fun fact for a competition. They make the most random topics super interesting.

#Microblog Monday 505: Productive Procrastination

To-do lists are difficult, seeing all of those tasks you need to do listed out. So I thought the triple list hack was brilliant.

The woman lists three things she needs to do each day: one annoying, one uncomfortable, and one painful. She then explains: “Having three of varying discomfort means I am more likely to do the lesser ones as a way to productively procrastinate on the bigger one.”

So she does the minimally annoying one (posting a letter) to get herself out of the more painful one (not eating sugar). She gets at least one thing accomplished.

#Microblog Monday 504: How Blue Is Your Blue?

I’ve seen a lot of people post this, so I finally tried it, and it was a fun exercise to discover if what you think is blue is the same as what other people think of as blue.

My result was 183, which will make more sense once you do the exercise and open the explanation in the About section. How blue is your blue?
