#Microblog Mondays 107: Anniversaries
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
I didn’t write about the 15th anniversary of September 11th yesterday because I didn’t have anything to say. But I spent the day thinking about it. Thinking about the actual day 15 years ago, and how it impacted everything that has come after. I know that I come from a place of privilege; not everyone gets to decide how they approach the day.
It feels strange to not say something, or, more accurately, to say anything else. Doesn’t it sometimes feel that way on social media? That your choice is to speak about the event on hand — good or bad — or say nothing at all. But anything in between feels like you’re stepping over an unspoken line.
Which is true and not true at the same time. Maybe you thought it odd that I wrote about my guinea pig instead of the 15th anniversary, or maybe you didn’t think anything of it at all.
Do you ever feel odd not speaking about a moment or event that is clearly on everyone else’s mind? Do you think we have an obligation to publicly speak, or is it enough to privately remember?

#Microblog Mondays 106: Eating Companions
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
I recently learned about a phenomenon in South Korea called muk-bang, where people livestream themselves eating enormous amounts of food. I misunderstood the idea at first because I couldn’t imagine anyone would want to see someone else chew. But, no, it’s pretty much just watching someone else consume food.
What I thought it was, at first, was that people were turning on their camera and livestreaming their meal at the same time every night, so you could pull them on your screen while you ate your meal, and you felt as if you were eating with someone. You know, except for the fact that they couldn’t hear you. Which would personally make me feel even lonelier than being completely alone, but that’s just me. And maybe for some people that is the draw, but for others, it’s just about watching someone else slurp noodles.
It made me wonder why I don’t get together for FaceTime meals with friends since we could sit in front of our computers with our respective meals and sort of feel like we’re in a restaurant with each other. How else am I going to get dinner with Lori?
Have you ever had a FaceTime (Skype) meal with another person? Would it appeal to you?

#Microblog Mondays 105: Fun House

While I don’t want to live in Florida, I do want to live in Disney World. (Yes, I’m aware that will be a problem if I don’t want to live in Florida.) Like really really really want to find 2 million dollars so I can buy a house next to the parks and go there every day.
I love amusement parks.
And I love the idea of living in one. I know some people find amusement parks draining, but I feel super recharged and happy after being in one for a few hours. I know — sort of strange for an introvert, but I didn’t say I liked engaging with people there. I just like being on the rides and walking around the park and breathing in the scent of park food and listening to carousel organ music.
Would you want to live in an amusement park? And if not, what would be your ideal space to inhabit?

#Microblog Mondays 104: End of Summer Blues
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
We’re nearing the end of summer. Soon the twins will be back in school, and I’ll be expected to buckle down and accomplish things. No more beach, no more pool.
I always have a hard time with endings, even when I know that summer — barring the apocalypse — will roll around again in about 9 months. Plus we have at least two beach trips planned over winter, so it’s not even like I need to wait 9 months to get back to the sand. But still. You know. Summer is almost done.
I am admittedly a cold weather person. But I’m a beach person, too. It doesn’t really match up, but I make it work.
Are you more a summer person or a winter person?

#Microblog Mondays 103: Events
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.
*******
By the time the next Microblog Monday rolls around, the Olympics will be over. Sniff. There are still the Paralympic Games to look forward to in September, but then they’ll be over and we’ll have to wait 2 years again.
Remember when we used to need to wait 4 years?
We’ve been mostly watching anything gymnastics or swimming. Though if they ever brought back pankration, I would be all over that. I am smitten over the idea of zero rules, and all the kicking, sticking, fighting and biting one can muster in the ring. Oh, wait, just re-read the two rules and they’re no biting or gouging out the opponent’s eyes. So, all the kicking sticking, and fighting one can muster in the ring.
What are your favourite (still-existing) Olympic events?
