Consumption 20
This is a monthly series, published near the end of the month summarizing what I found, ate, watched, googled, and felt this month. New categories added from time to time.
Books Added to My TBR (e.g., books I just learned about that I’m excited to read… maybe)
- Hide and Seek (Andrea Mara)
- Sharpen Your Knives (Lauren Ho)
- As We Fall Through Time (Claire North)
- The Bluff (Wade Rouse)
- Sleepers in the Snow (Joanne Harris)
- The Vanishing Jury (Anthony Horowitz)
- Murder Most Cryptic (Alys Cummings)
- The Murder Planner (L.C. Tyler)
- The Heights (Ian Rankin)
- Revenge Plot (Stephanie Wrobel)
Notable Meals (new recipes, old favorites, and restaurant items we ate this month)
- Melted brie, maple balsamic marinated apples, and apricot jam sandwich on toasted bread.
- Nooch’s chicken delish: “Crispy chicken strips, iceberg lettuce, tomato, delish sauce on a warmed pita.” So so so so good.
- A brown sugar cinnamon steamer from Heritage Coffee. It was like a hug in a cup.
- Skinnytaste’s spinach ricotta pizza from her cookbook. I have plans to tweak it next time — less ricotta/add steamed broccoli — but it was pretty good, as is.
Television, Movies, and Music (watching and listening)
- Have I Got News For You. I only lasted one episode. I enjoyed it, but by the next week, I realized that I didn’t really want to rehash the news, even with comedians. Reading the news once was fine (no, it’s really not), but I don’t want op-eds or late night talk shows to chew it over again.
- We put off the last episode of Ted Lasso, but we finally watched it last week. It was sad, but not too sad. Kind of a perfect end. I hope it’s back for another season.
Added To My Ongoing Mix Tape
- “Oh Love” (Kingfishr)
- “White Flag” (Dido)
Tabs I Left Open (things I Googled and left up on the screen)
- A website about lopapeysa sweaters.
- TOAST clothing’s DC store.
- A website for Seaham beach near Newcastle, which has an unusual amount of sea glass.
- The menu for Nooch, a vegan restaurant in Windsor, Ontario.
- Flavour list for Icelandic Provisions’ skyr.
- A website for a company that does barge bike trips. You bike during the day, and get on the barge at night to sleep.
Micro-Joys
- Getting falafel and seeing Some Like It Hot with a friend who totally gets it.
- Hearing Brian Liu play his arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s Dance of the Cygnets as an encore to his Prokofiev performance.
- Hugging my cousin so hard and crying in the parking lot because I was finally getting to see her off FaceTime after 8 months.
Mood
- Unsettled about the future.
What about you? Let me know what you’re eating, seeing, listening to, googling, feeling this month.
