#Microblog Monday 483: April Fools Grouchiness

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

Every year elevates me to a new level of crankiness about April Fools Day. Yes, the fake pregnancy announcements were worse ten years ago when it was possible for the vast majority of my Facebook feed to possibly get pregnant, whereas by now, it sounds so far-fetched that I scroll on by without pause, but it doesn’t make the holiday any less annoying.

It’s hard enough to figure out reality without adding a fake holiday into the mix for the sole purpose of creating more confusion.

Bah humbug, or whatever the equivalent is for April Fools Day.

*******

Are you also doing #MicroblogMondays? Add your link below. The list will be open until Tuesday morning. Link to the post itself, not your blog URL. (Don’t know what that means? Please read the three rules on this post to understand the difference between a permalink to a post and a blog’s main URL.) Only personal blogs can be added to the list. I will remove any posts connected to businesses or sponsored posts.

I haven’t seen a fake pregnancy announcement on April Fool’s Day in a while. Not sure if that’s because people are getting the hint or, as you said, my FB demographic has mostly aged out of that sort of thing. Or maybe, with all the media coverage recently about reproductive rights and maternal mortality rates, etc., people are starting to realize that pregnancy is not a joking matter for many women?? (One can only hope…!) Whatever the reason, I hope it continues…!

Bah humbug indeed! I hate April Fool’s Day. It was worse when I was teaching and way worse when I was trying to get pregnant. Now I don’t even have social media (other than blogging) and life is better, haha.

I don’t think I saw any fake announcements/articles/pranks/anything on social media/news media yesterday. That’s fine by me – I’ve never liked April Fool’s Day either. The pregnancy announcements were always really tacky.
I did read something on Fbk today though that said 1 April is the only day of the year people read articles and actually scrutinise them to check they are true! lol

Ugh. I stayed off of social media today because I didn’t want to see anything about that. It is interesting to think that for the most part, my contemporaries aren’t in that “I could get realistically pregnant” demographic, despite the 50 year old celebrities having babies. I didn’t really feel like I missed out, not checking to see if anyone was a dumbass today, ha.
