The COVID Cycle
March 3, 2020, was the first time I wrote about COVID. Back then, I didn’t know how much to worry.
It’s hard to gauge how much to worry. I don’t worry about the flu, and the flu is much more widespread. (Though I do get a flu shot yearly, so that may explain why I don’t worry about the flu.)
And I wondered if we may be stuck at home for a week! Or two! I have a note to myself in my bullet journal to purchase lemons in case this ever happens again. Because they last a long time and allow me to make many dishes. I clearly thought that this would be over in a week or two, and maybe we’d have a few years before the next pandemic.
But we’re three years in. And the world has moved on, except when it doesn’t move on. We’ve managed to stay safe by making no concessions with masking and vaccinations, though I no longer believe we’ll be able to dodge this forever, even if we don’t change anything we’re doing.
I guess on Friday, the wheel turns, and the next COVID year starts again.

Three years. Somehow, I really can’t tell the first two years apart despite journaling every day…
Thanks for the community, Mel!
I just read Pamela’s update… anyone who thinks covid is over needs to read it. 🙁

I know it’s probably inevitable that I’ll get it at some point. But I’m not going down without a fight…! I know dh & I are more comfortable staying at home than a lot of other people, but I don’t understand why it’s so hard to wear a mask when you’re out in public… especially if/when you’re obviously coughing, etc. (as I see/hear so many people doing right now). Ugh. 🙁
Oh, how naive we all were this time three years ago! The next few weeks hell broke loose, and we weren’t being complacent (well, most of us weren’t) or watching and wondering any more. I do remember welcoming a friend from California in late February 2020, surprised that she would still travel given the daily news. Little did I know that three years later, I still wouldn’t have left the country!
Three years! It feels like forever and a blink all at once. I remember having dinner out for Bryce’s birthday in March 2020, and being super nervous if anyone coughed and leaving early, and the next day… everything shut down. I actually do worry about the flu, even with the flu shot, because it can hit me hard (just as hard as COVID did in Sept/Oct). I am grateful for vaccines!
So much has changed in the last 3 years…
Just completed the first of my three, twice a day corticosteroid and bronchodialator inhalers, and that’s just the beginning of what I need to breathe *every* day as I battle Long COVID. Is this 5x vaxxed woman tired of COVID? Hell yeah, but I wouldn’t wish gasping for air and religiously monitoring your O2 levels on anyone. Proceed with caution.
p.s. Appreciate Loribeth’s shoutout — you can read more about my COVID experience on my blog.
It’s so strange because I find most of the people I know don’t even want to mention Covid anymore and there’s silence if you even bring it up in conversation. We’re all expected to forget about it even though it hasn’t actually gone away..
