#Microblog Monday 430: Street View

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

Neal Agarwal makes fun things. I’ve shared a few things before, like his absurd trolley problems. In January, he released a new fun Internet toy allowing you to jump around the world seeing unusual moments captured by Google Street View.

Like a motorcycle and sidecar in the process of falling over in the Netherlands. Or glaciers in Greenland. Or the Internet Explorer grave in South Korea. You use the random button in the top right corner to jump to the next spot.

Have fun.

Are you also doing #MicroblogMondays? Add your link below. The list will be open until Tuesday morning. Link to the post itself, not your blog URL. (Don’t know what that means? Please read the three rules on this post to understand the difference between a permalink to a post and a blog’s main URL.) Only personal blogs can be added to the list. I will remove any posts connected to businesses or sponsored posts.

Some interesting pictures there!

One of dh’s cousins was on Google Street View a few years ago, going up & down the streets of the family’s old hometown in southern Italy… and there, sitting on the step outside of the old family home, was his & dh’s aunt! She’d just died a few months earlier. Sad but sweet to see her there like that, frozen in time…!

That’s so cool. I clicked thru for a few minutes to see if any places I’d been came up and sure enough, they did! (Maybe not the exact location, but still)

Our Google story: the Google car happened to drive up our street 12 years ago when my husband was in the middle of painting our house. An image of our house half-painted (different colors) was on street view for years (I just checked and finally there is an updated picture).

I think our streetview still pictures me walking my daughter home from school – first grade or kindergarten, I think. We just saw another map service that had a streetview car driving around. Maybe Garmin? The kid had never heard of it.
