A Good Cry
I’m in a weepy book mood. Sometimes I avoid books and movies that promise to leave me a sobbing wreck, and other times, I am like, “sign me up.” Sign me up for Lily and the Octopus. I would like to be left a puddle on the floor, thumbing through old pictures of Linus.
Sign me up for The Duke. I can’t even watch the trailer without getting choked up. Sweet old man art thieves trying to bring balance to the world? (Actually, I don’t know if Kempton Bunton was a sweet old man, but Broadbent feels like a sweet old man.) Yes, please.
Sometimes you just need a good cry.
What do you read/watch to bring on a good cry?

So My Octopus Teacher and Raya and the Last Dragon both wrecked me, plus the finale of WandaVision (but I am a notorious crier).
The books I read most recently that made me cry were A Man Called Ove, Hamnet and Judith, and one short story in a Dragon anthology
I almost never cry at books or movies; I can count on the fingers of one hand the times that has happened in my life. There is a running joke in my family and among my close friends that I am “dead inside,” and my book club ladies esp. rib me about it because our group includes a few criers, and the books that evoke tears for them never do for me. 😉
I’m weird: I really can’t make myself cry, and I don’t find crying particularly cathartic.
I can pinpoint exactly when I became an incontrollable crier in my twenties (just got my first contact lenses and was in shock). Since then I find myself sweep for the seasons changing, neuroscience books, a great slice of cheesecake, etc. I chuck it all to the infamous hormones. Can’t wait for “The Duke”!
*weep
I can’t remember the last book I cried over (although I do cry over books sometimes). As for movies, I’m not a big sports fan, but “Rudy” and “Hoosiers” always make me bawl at the end (they’re dh’s favourites too). I took a look through my blog to see if any more recent movies rang a bell as a tear-jerker (back when we could see movies…!) & I remember getting very weepy over a certain significant scene (which I won’t describe because, spoilers) in “Yesterday.” 🙂
(You didn’t ask about music, but the entire soundtrack of “Les Miz” does the trick for me there!)
