Dreaming About Travel

We are nowhere close to being ready to travel—not even to another state—but we’ve taken the first tentative baby steps towards travel by thinking about traveling and Googling details. It’s such a weird baby step, but it is what it is.

One of the kids threw out the idea of Iceland in winter, and then the other chimed in that it checked all of my boxes: cold, isolated, rocky, and surrounded by puffins. (Though, I don’t believe there are any puffins in winter because the flock that moves through that northern Atlantic area is there spring to late summer.)

It would be kind of perfect. Northern lights, dark all the time, negative temperatures, and ice caves. Does it get any better than that? Plus, it’s a short-ish flight from here.

Or if air travel still feels fraught, we’ll aim for Canada.

Where are you dreaming of going in the future?

I don’t even particularly like traveling and I am daydreaming about it in the future. 🙂 My dream trip is to go to Slovenia to meet Klara and Switzerland to meet Elaine. I haven’t met any fellow bloggers in real life yet, and I would love to see both of these beautiful places and meet these beautiful souls.

My boyfriend and I also reeeally want to take an Amtrak trip through the Rocky Mountains and up the West coast. My best friend from college lives in Seattle and I haven’t seen her in, oh gosh, I think maybe 7 years. She has three daughters that I haven’t even met yet.

However, my first trip will be to see my parents! I haven’t seen them in 22 months, the longest I haven’t seen them by far. Whenever it is, I am looking forward to it. I also look forward to hearing about your family’s travels whenever it’s safe to do so.

We have a trip to Maui scheduled for the week between Christmas and New Years. My husband and I were married there and are looking forward to returning with our sons.

We are also discussing a road trip to LA in September (school fall break) to do the visit to Universal Studios Hollywood that Covid canceled, assuming that the park will be open then to out of state guests. And hoping to meet up with my sister and her family somewhere while they are in the western US this summer.
