Opting Out of Mother’s Day Messages

I received the most amazing, thoughtful email a few weeks ago from the Royal Collection Trust. Mother’s Day in the UK is in mid-March (as opposed to the U.S.’s Mother’s Day in mid-May), and they wanted to know if I wanted to opt out of receiving emails with gifts and messaging geared towards Mother’s Day.

Mother's Day Royal Collection Trust

So simple and kind yet it’s the ONLY email I’ve ever received with this offer. American companies take note.

Brilliant, right?

That “thoughtful” email would be super-triggering for me. I lost my my mom on Thanksgiving Day 2020 and I absolutely do not want or need to be reminded that Mother’s Day is going to be hard this year.

I like it.

More & more UK companies have adopted this idea in recent years… as usual, they are way ahead of us North Americans in these matters…!

I think it’s great that someone has realized that Mother’s Day isn’t a day of happy celebration for everyone. As you said, American companies should take note.

Very cool.

That IS brilliant! I’d definitely rather have one email asking if I’d like to opt out than be inundated by emails exhorting me to buy this or that for your mother on Mother’s Day.

Mary, I’m so so sorry your lost your mom last year.
