Moonlighting
Speaking of old television shows, CrimeReads recently did an article about the show Moonlighting. I adored this show. I was allowed to stay up later (to 9:30 pm!) two nights per week, and I always chose to stay up later on Moonlighting nights to see the first half. My mother taped the remainder of the episode—9:30 pm to 10 pm—and I watched it after school the next day.
Cybill Shepherd—swoon. Probably 90% of the content went over my tween head, but the characters made me certain that I too could grow up and open a detective agency. I was also certain that by the time I reached adulthood, I would know how to dance like the woman in purple because adults danced like this on television all. the. time.
[Aside: Josh just opened the door to the room and said, “You’re watching Moonlighting” the moment he heard Mulberry Street begin.]
I find it amusing now. What appealed to 12-year-old Melissa that she would use up one of her precious 9:30s? Who decided that some Moonlighting at night was safer than trusting the VCR to tape the whole episode?

I only saw bits and pieces of the show when I was young…but after watching this I wondered who the lady in the purple dress was…I poked around and found out it was: Sandahl Bergman! She was in Conan the Barbarian, the female warrior! how awesome is that! I do hope that you get a fancy dance in soon…
Moonlighting was great – one of the best “will they or won’t they” dynamics on television!
Grew up in another country and Moonlightning (the title of the show was translated as ‘Blue Moon’) a favorite show for everyone. It was dubbed and the people who talked over were thether actors, so there was serious, good acting going on in the voiceovers. Mrs. Topesto will remain a dear forever.
Oh, I loved “Moonlighting!!” It went downhill pretty fast once Maddie & David (finally!) got together & she got pregnant… but up until that point, it was pretty sublime. In a similar vein, “Remington Steele” was pretty good too.
(But… You were 12?? Gulp.)

Haha I was young and loved Moonlighting too. I’m sure I missed a lot of the jokes and situations. I also loved Murphy Brown, Night Court, Cheers, and Designing Women.
This makes me realize I need a good tv show to watch… I’ve already watched all of Columbo during the pandemic and I’m almost finished with Alfred Hitchcock.
How funny! I’m a couple years older than you are- I might have been in high school by Moonlighting, not sure- if it was junior high? That was STILL past my bedtime- my mom was so strict about that! LOL But, I was team Remington Steele all the way! I never even watched Moonlighting until my husband introduced me to it a decade later.
