Hopefully, We Live
I was talking to Leah over Zoom, and we were discussing what happens after the election is over. And I said, “Hopefully, we live.” And she responded, “Yes, hopefully!” But then we just stared at each other through the screen because… while I meant that everything will hopefully be fine—life as normal (or, at least, as normal as it can be with a pandemic)—it also sounded like we were entering the Hunger Games arena. May the odds be ever in our favour.
And then we mused how that statement sort of sums up 2020. Hopefully, we live. Hopefully, we get to the end of this pandemic. Hopefully, we get to the end of the political nightmare. Hopefully, we stop systemic racism. Hopefully, we restore families separated at the border. Hopefully, hopefully, hopefully, because the alternative is that we don’t live.
I am trying so hard to live right now. I am trying to plot out meals to lessen the number of trips to the grocery store. I am trying to make sure the masks are clean. I am trying not to scroll through the polls and obsessively think about the future.
Sending good thoughts to everyone for this stressful week and life beyond.

Right back atcha!
😬🤞🙏
I don’t know if I can stay in the USA if this bozo wins again, either legitimately or illegitimately. UGH
Yes, I hear you. I too feel everyone is collectively holding their breath. Sending good thoughts out into the universe and some right to you.
I’m thinking of my US friends, and hoping so much for you. And trying not to take for granted my own good fortune here, because that would just be rude.
Same. Our schools closed this week (doesn’t affect us, my kids were already fully remote) so I shopped early (pick up, before the inevitable hoarding of TP starts again) and will continue to isolate and try to stay hopeful. We will live. This moment in time will not last forever and we can’t stop fighting. That is what I keep reminding myself, because it feels daunting and exhausting right now.
Yesssss. Yes to all of this. What a freaking stressful time we’re living in. “I am trying so hard to live right now. ” — same. 🤞🤞🤞🤞 for Tuesday and a turnaround to this bizarre reality we are experiencing.
Hopefully.
Hopefully.
Hopefully.
(Would have loved to be on that zoom with you two!)
Nothing to add other than a virtual hug. Over here at our house, I’m just hoping these times strengthen rather than break my little son. We are making empathy, resilience (and getting better at gardening) priorities. A friend of mine posted a timely reminder on FB last night – no matter what, there will still be times to laugh, we will still find moments of beauty….all the things you tell yourself in the midst of grieving. It all applies here. These things will be true even if it doesn’t feel that way right now. Hugging you, Mel.
