My Pandemic Birthday

My birthday has been a little bit of a family joke. We always do something for it, but it’s rarely on my birthday because we generally have other commitments. The last few birthdays have been lost to Bat Mitzvahs, work galas, and college reunions. Instead, we choose a different weekend and go to the beach for the day.

But that’s not really possible. And it’s hard to get into the birthday spirit this year. Our country is heartbroken, scared, and enraged.

We started the birthday festivities over the weekend. None of the festivities feel really exciting so dropping them into various days means that we always have something small to look forward to. Maybe we’ll keep it going until the end of the week.

There has been “beach” time via a YouTube beach video. Yahtzee-without-complaining while gorging on cookies. Hanging out time with my guinea pig. A socially-distant visit with my parents outside their house.

A quiet and subdued entry into 46. Which is okay.

Happy birthday! Last year my daughter had her preschool graduation on my birthday and I jokingly complained about how old it made me feel and how rushed the day was. Oh, how I wish I could take that back.

I’m glad you are finding small fun things to do. That’s all we can do right now. Enjoy as much as you can!

Happy happy 46th, my friend. I hope your week has many moments of celebrating your specialness. If it’s one thing the quarantine has taught us, it’s that sometimes the ordinary is exquisite.

So happy you were born <3

Happy birthday, dear Mel! I’m sure it’s a strange one this year, but I hope the day brings you some pleasure nevertheless. You deserve it. <3

Happy Birthday! I agree that a celebratory spirit would’ve been hard these days.

Happy birthday! I’m sorry it is a strange year for birthdays. My big 4-0 is next week and is not going to play out how I invisioned at all. Oh well. We are all healthy so I’ll take that as a win.

Happy birthday! Having a lower-key birthday week is a good idea. Take what treats you have and embrace them. Thinking of you and your city (I have a number of friends there) and country right now.

Happy birthday! It really is a strange year for birthdays and I hear you about things not feeling celebratory given everything that’s going on. I hope you’re able to find some special things that bring you moments of happiness in the midst of all of it. It’s tough right now.

Happy somewhat belated birthday. Thank goodness for the love of family (and pigs). It was my birthday the other day too, and though we’re safer in Australia it was still super-weird to have a pandemic lockdown birthday 🙁
Love to you and yours.

Happy birthday, late! Something to look forward to throughout the week sounds like a good plan. It is a very strange time to have a birthday, but time just marches on. I hope you had a wonderful week in spite of the state of the world!
