Not Doing Today

The perfect first line: “History is full of people who just didn’t.”

And then, “I like no. It’s sidewise to a reverse mantra (om). It’s stealthy, portable, and unslouching.”

Before I read that line, I though of action as better than inaction, doing as better than not doing. But so much can be accomplished — a louder statement sometimes made — when people refuse to participate. When we take a look at all the things we’re not doing and celebrate that inaction. To examine the negative spaces of our day and cheer ourselves on for protecting those inverse, quiet moments.

There is a lot of power in not doing.

So what are you not doing today?

Involving myself in parent drama at my kids’ school. I volunteer a lot – for things that are meaningful. Does it help students? Does it feed someone or give them more access to books? Truly help an amazing teacher? No? Then I am out. No floofy poofy stuff for me because that’s where all the mom drama is. And I say NO.

I love this post. Just what I needed to read today.

For me, I find that a big part of healthier eating is what I avoid eating. Lately I’ve been avoiding red meat, fried foods, anything made with white flour, and anything processed.

The things I’m not doing at the moment that I’m proud of are:
1. Not telling a particular person what I think of them and their behaviour
2. Not complaining about having to care for my FIL (at least, not to the people who could do something about it!)
3. Not spending a lot of money.

There’s a lot I’m not doing that I could wish I was doing, but let’s keep that hidden. lol
