#Microblog Monday 283: Podcasts

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

People magazine had an article about an infertility podcast called Infertile AF. It’s in its second season. The podcast’s description: “In this unfiltered podcast about infertility, Brooklyn-based journalist and mom-of-two Ali Prato, who went through IVF herself, talks to women—and some men—about the messy, frustrating, painful, heartbreaking, absurd and sometimes hilarious journey to have a baby. Or in some cases, to not have a baby.”

Or if listening to 42 minutes about infertility after living 42 months of infertility, I’ll direct you to my favourite new escape: Shedunnit. Someone linked to one of her older episodes, and I decided to download the first ones and listen to it in the car. It is FANTASTIC. I mean, especially if you love mysteries. But completely fascinating history stuff, too.

What are you listening to?

Are you also doing #MicroblogMondays? Add your link below. The list will be open until Tuesday morning. Link to the post itself, not your blog URL. (Don’t know what that means? Please read the three rules on this post to understand the difference between a permalink to a post and a blog’s main URL.) Only personal blogs can be added to the list. I will remove any posts that are connected to businesses or are sponsored post.

Will have to check out “Infertile AF” – that sounds interesting! My last podcast listen was “Dr. Death” about a criminally incompetent neurosurgeon. Fascinating and horrifying and with some insight into reporting in healthcare and how the neurosurgeon was able to move from place to place. Definitely not for the squeamish – there are some fairly graphic surgical descriptions. I kept exclaiming out loud as I was listening – it’s almost unbelievable.

Now that I don’t have a commute daily, I don’t listen to podcasts as much as I used to (or wished I could have), but One Extraordinary Marriage is my go to. I also love Common Sense Pregnancy Parenting and Politics.

I subscribe to a bunch of podcasts on my Spotify and Google Play apps — but I haven’t actually listened to a lot of them. I find if I’m going to listen, I need to sit & LISTEN and not try to do much else — because if I try to multitask, in most cases, suddenly I’m 20 minutes into the podcast and I realize I haven’t really absorbed a thing they’ve said. That said, there are two podcasts I’d recommend to the childless-not-by-choice community — I’ve listened to all the available episodes of these, except the very latest:

The Full Stop Podcast

Live Childfree with Erik & Melissa

A couple of others I listen to occasionally & enjoy:

One Great Book AND What Should I Read Next? (by Anne Bogel/Modern Mrs. Darcy)

The Axe Files with David Axelrod

Right this minute, I’m listening to a National Radio (similar to your NPR) interview with a young New Zealander who has just spent 10 weeks interning with a Republican Congresswoman in DC. Sounded fascinating, especially – as she pointed out – that both our right and left-wing parties would fit in the Democratic spectrum in the US.

When I’m on my walks, I am also listening to a new audiobook by Sherman Alexie, which is good except that the narrator can’t say “cavalry” and every time he says “calvary” I grimace, so maybe it’s not so good for me!

I should listen to more podcasts, or to be truthful, any podcasts. I listened to Serial for the first season, and Bryce listens to Critical Role (a D&D podcast). I listen to NPR in the car pretty much exclusively, does that count? I will have to check these out, both yours and the ones in the comments!

I haven’t been able to get into podcasts. Weird.
