#Microblog Monday 278: Mid-Week Holiday

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

I only read the headline this week, but apparently breaks on Wednesdays are more recharging than having a three-day weekend. Which we get this week: two days on, Christmas on a Wednesday, and two days back on if your office is open.

But I’m not a fan of the mid-week break. I love it when holidays fall close to a weekend, and feel pretty stressed out when they’re smack in the middle of the week. Even when I’m not hosting, and all I need to do is show up.

What do you think? Do you like having a mid-week Christmas, or do you wish the holiday backed up onto a weekend?

Are you also doing #MicroblogMondays? Add your link below. The list will be open until Tuesday morning. Link to the post itself, not your blog URL. (Don’t know what that means? Please read the three rules on this post to understand the difference between a permalink to a post and a blog’s main URL.) Only personal blogs can be added to the list. I will remove any posts that are connected to businesses or are sponsored post.

I generally like longer breaks – a three or four day weekend. But the pressure to “do something” then often leaves me disappointed, whereas a random day out two off just brings a freedom to relax.

Enjoy your short break.

I am spoiled, because the mid-week holiday made it the magical two-week break from school. However, when we have Veterans Day midweek, it’s weird. It breaks things up and makes it two short miniweeks, which is a bit offputting and throws off my rhythms. I hope you enjoy your time off, even though both work holidays fall on Wednesdays.

I’m fortunate in that I am able to take off my kids’ entire winter break. But for things like Veterans Day or the Fourth of July, yeah, I agree it’s reeeeeealllly hard to go back to work after a midweek day off. I don’t know who was interviewed for those studies but I completely disagree that midweek days off are more recharging. I mean, I’d love to only work Monday and Tuesday and then Thursday and Friday if the choice was that or work five days a week. But if you’re comparing a midweek day off with a three day weekend, I’d much rather have a three day weekend.

Definitely stack them. I get so disoriented on weeks in which July 4 is on a T, W, or Th. There’s a flow to a week and a mid-week holiday messes with that.

As a prof, I get 3-4 weeks off for the holiday break, BUT at our university Christmas party, the president announced that he was giving all staff from Dec 24 -Dec 27 and Dec 31-Jan 3 off. They were over the moon about not having to go in the days after the holidays. They’re only going in to work Monday of each week, which is great for them. Now, we can all be super-rested when the students return! And I’m with you, if anything, give me the extra long weekend.

Since I work a 4 day week, and have copious amounts of accrued time off…a mid-week holiday generally becomes a reeeeeally long weekend for me. So I don’t mind them at all.

That’s interesting, I’ve always assumed a three day weekend is the best option but I can see the advantages of a mid week break for sure!
