Happy Thanksgiving (or Thursday)
I have zero clue why I wrote myself this note back in October: “We don’t know what is bad news or what is good news.” Meaning, something could seem bad in the moment but really turn out to be good down the road, or vice versa. You may be thinking that something is really going your way, but because we don’t know the future, that good thing turns out to actually be terrible.
The point?
One, I have no clue why I wrote this note. Does anyone know why I would have written that down last month?
Two, it seems like a good thing to keep in mind if today is hard. It may be hard in the moment, but that hard may be yielding something wonderful in the future. And I hope it does for you.

I am finding that reserving judgement is usually a good idea.
Well…here’s an application. I was very frustrated and disappointed with Pelosi and other congresspersons for months, like why haven’t they started impeachment proceedings? Especially after the Mueller report. In retrospect I’m glad they waited until the Ukraine blockbuster news came out.

I love this. One year I did the thing where you write notes all year long about good things that happened and then read them on new years eve. I was so sad and disappointed to read about job interviews that didn’t work out, and car repairs that turned into more problems. You never know what is going to turn out wonky in the end. But the reverse is also true as you point out, so that’s a better way of looking at it. Or just breathe in the present, it’s all we know for sure.
