Ancient Games Club

I’ve decided that my dream job is to join the Digital Ludeme Project. I’m not sure what my role would be — digital cheerleader? — but there must be a need for someone who is a passionate lover of ancient games who has zero ability to contribute to the AI aspect of the project?

Oooooh, or maybe an organizer hosting ancient game clubs in various cities once the project fully releases in 2020? Help people set up face-to-face game groups, use the DLP’s work, celebrate the project, get addicted to senet.

All I know is that I wanted in as soon as I heard about it.

I can’t be the only person who is totally geeked out about this project, right?

I’ve never played backgammon (I know, I know…), but I love mancala, chess and nine-man morris/mill. I dream of having enough time to learn Go, so I think backgammon is long overdue.

So no, you’re not the only one geeking out.

Cristy, I’m much better at backgammon than I am at mancala. I’ve played only twice, and lost to Mel and the Wolvog.

We are intense backgammon players AND mancala players 🙂 I used mancala as a stepping stone for teaching strategy before I taught them chess. I would happily teach you backgammon, Cristy. It’s a fun game.

We just got our Throw, Throw Burrito game (from Matthew Inman of The Oatmeal)…well, I just gave it to my daughter for her birthday. It’s hilarious, and I highly recommend.

I am not an ancient game person, although I have vague memories of how to play backgammon. I prefer card games to most others. I want to play for fun, not for strategy or competition. (Therefore, I can’t play any games with my family, as they are terrible.)
