#Microblog Monday 264: Best Idea Ever

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

Do you know what a silent book club is? It’s a book club where you silently read together. So there is socializing beforehand where you can catch up or meet people, a silent reading period, and then another talking section where people can talk about cool things that came up in their book.

Everyone is reading whatever they feel like reading, so you’re never reading a book that isn’t appealing, AND you still find out about books you may have never found otherwise because other people are reading (and talking about) them in the group.

What do you think? Would you join a silent book club?

Are you also doing #MicroblogMondays? Add your link below. The list will be open until Tuesday morning. Link to the post itself, not your blog URL. (Don’t know what that means? Please read the three rules on this post to understand the difference between a permalink to a post and a blog’s main URL.) Only personal blogs can be added to the list. I will remove any posts that are connected to businesses or are sponsored post.

No. I’d feel way too distracted wanting to talk to all the people there. If you’re just going to be silent, then I’d rather be reading at home. We never had enough time to chat at my book club!

No, for the same reasons Mali has.

I think it’s a cool idea if you’re into book clubs. For me, reading has always been one of the things that I savor as part of “me” time. I feel like I’m escaping into the story and I selfishly don’t want to share that time or experience with anyone.

Would love to be part of a silent book club. Sounds enticing as well as enchanting.

Where can I join one? Or better still I should bounce the idea off my book club buddies.

I like the idea because while I have always liked the idea of a book club, my life currently does not allow me enough free time for reading to give up any of it for “assigned reading.” I’m not willing to give up the little reading time I have for something I HAVE to read- I want it to be purely something I want to read, so if I could have the social aspect AND still read what I want? Yes please!

I suppose it would be worth a try if you had trouble setting aside time for reading. Not really an issue for me, though, and a big reason I joined a book club was for the social aspect. So personally, I would prefer a more traditional book club approach. 🙂

Any book club is a club for me. This sounds a lot like “Drop Everything And Read” time when I was a classroom teacher, which was one of my favorite times of day.

This type of book club doesn’t appeal to me. I prefer to be alone when I am reading silently, and as someone else said, my urge to talk with the other people present would seriously distract me from my reading.

I have been in a neighborhood book club for a few years, and it’s been great! There are seven of us who come on a regular basis, and although we are all women of the same race, we are diverse in other ways, such as age, marital status, occupation, and interests. We take turns hosting and choosing the monthly book selection, and more often than not, all or most of us read the books selected, so that we are able to have a meaningful discussion about them.

Of course, we also talk about things other than the books, and not every month’s selection is something that I myself would have chosen to read. But that’s part of the enjoyment for me.

I feel like I would be too interested in chatting as many mentioned above. I also feel like when the silent time to read would come, that I would be too distracted or anxious to really settle in and read.

So I love the idea of it but I think I might find it too distracting. I prefer to really immerse myself into a book. However, it’s great coming up with fun ways to revamp book club meetings to get more people involved

At first the idea of a silent book club wasn’t very enticing and then I realized…hey! this is a way to make me read the books I want to read, so now I’m all in. Sorry about the two links, had issues getting mine right…
