How We Became Tig Notaro Groupies

Josh and I were once at an Elvis Costello concert in DC, and we started talking to the couple next to us.  They were a long way from their home on the west coast.  They told us that part of their retirement plan was to look at where favourite musicians were playing, and then randomly visit a city and see the show.  So they flew across the country to check out DC during the day and then see Elvis Costello at night.  If the city was boring, they still had the concert, and if the city was amazing, they got to have a fantastic trip all-around.

It sounded like a cool idea.

The ChickieNob worships Tig Notaro, and she asked me to check if there was any way to see her live.  She wasn’t coming to DC, but she would be in a city a little over two hours away.  We decided to be like that couple and plan a trip around a performance.  So last Saturday, we drove up to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, ate chocolate at Hershey’s Chocolate World during the day, and then headed over to see Tig perform live.

Third row seats, baby.

The twins were a tad younger than the rest of the crowd.  As in, we didn’t see anyone else close to their age.  But they didn’t care.  We laughed so hard; that kind of laugh that also sort of hurts because you can’t catch your breath and tears are rolling down your face.  And when it was done, we walked back to the hotel, repeating our favourite moments.  And the Wolvog asked if we could become Tig Notaro groupies and just follow her from show to show.

Um… sure?

So that’s where you’ll find us from now on.  Just going from Tig Notaro show to Tig Notaro show, and watching her Netflix shows in between.

That is actually an awesome retirement plan! My husband would LOVE that, he is very into live music. And I like seeing random cities. Also, had to Google Tig Nataro, how have I never heard of her?

That sounds like fun! Good thing you work from home, so you can continue to support the family on your travels! 😀

You were in my neighborhood! (Well, I’m about an hour from Harrisburg, but still, very close!) Harrisburg is actually a pretty cool place, as cities go. Very foodie with lots of neat places to eat. And the Susquehanna is a big draw for water activities. Hershey is fun and Chocolate World is great, although I haven’t been since they updated it. It’s been a while, now that I think about it. I should take the kids! Glad you enjoyed yourselves! 🙂

I love Tig Nataro, too! And that’s a very cool idea. Your kids sound smart and caring.

I’m a big fan of anything live. In the time before kids I would go to 10 ish concerts a summer. I once took a 4 hour bus trip and to see a favorite play the today show. Waited in line all night, saw the show and got back on a bus! It was crazy but very fun. Hope to do similar when the littles are out of the house!

WE NEED TO DO THIS. (Maybe not for Tig Notaro, but I think I could get dh onside for Bruce Springsteen, lol.) We’re retired now, so time is certainly not an issue! I actually went to Winnipeg last fall, in part to spend Thanksgiving with my family but also because my sister had tickets to Paul McCartney & said one was mine if I wanted. So we went & she and I had a blast. She now has tickets to Elton John’s farewell show there in October (and I was unable to get anything for here in Toronto)… hmmm….

I always thought when I was older that I would travel around to attend the Canadian & world figure skating championships regularly. A friend of my mom’s used to travel around the world — by herself — to the world curling championships every year, for quite a few years. She met a lot of great people and had a fabulous time.
