Have You Ever Re-Read Your Blog?

Valery and I were emailing after she mentioned that she re-read her own blog, and it occurred to me that I have never done this.  I’ve re-read specific posts, and sometimes, if I’m looking for something, I’ll read the posts around it.  But I’ve never started at the beginning and read back through it as the story of my life.

Which is, you know, what it is.  It’s the story of what I’ve thought about for the last 12+ years.  A quarter of my life.  But I’ve never gone back to the first post and read from June 2006 until now, seeing how those thoughts have changed or reliving moments.  Who knows what I’ll find in there that I’ve forgotten about?

Have you ever read your own blog from beginning to end?

… I don’t think I have the time to do that.

Though I do enjoy reading old posts! 2010/2011 me was golden.

Beginning to end, no. Although I do revisit old posts — and then start reading a whole bunch more written around the same time…! I’ve actually been meaning to go through from start to finish (at least in chunks). I didn’t know what the heck I was doing re: tagging, etc., when I was first starting out. Also, whenever I start reading old posts, I always find typos that need correcting (erk!).

I did about a year ago when I cleaned things up and unpublished about 200 posts. As a documentarian, I loved doing this, seeing where I have been and what, over the years, has been important to me. My blog chronicles not only my children’s lives (somewhat) but also my own development as a writer, mother, woman, human.

Oof. I bet that would be interesting. I do go back and look through my blog for milestones and when we did certain things… It’s a great timekeeper. I think I would need to mentally prepare for rereading start to finish… I’ve gone back and read hard posts and there’s just so much pain there. And I don’t always recognize the previous me, if that makes sense.

I haven’t read it start to finish although I read a lot of it when I transferred my blog from blogspot and unpublished a bunch of posts. It’s interesting how my blog started to keep in touch with a specific group of people and has evolved into my space of unraveling, teeth gnashing and growing! Sometimes I play with the idea of becoming less anonymous , then I realize how much I’ve written about certain people and uh, I’m not ready to deal with that.

I haven’t read mine start to finish either but I have re-read a few(especially when I get random comments on super old posts). But most of my posts bring back painful memories and I’m not sure I want to specifically step back in time to those feelings. If I briefly recount the years..I would read: sadness, naive hope, following the process, failing, unwillingness to “give up”, failing more, more, and then finally surrendering, giving up, bliss…and now..well…hiding what I should probably be writing about…I’m opening up more in 2019(one of my goals) so we will see if I follow through…
