Backyard Beach

I am aware that (1) a beach in the backyard is probably against the homeowner association’s rules, (2) would attract mosquitoes and not sea gulls, (3) would not look like the pictures after about an hour, (4) would require a lot of upkeep, (5) would probably destroy the lawn…

…but I want one.  I want a backyard beach.

I bookmarked this article in USA Today, and keep returning to look at the crystal blue water and white sand.  You can see larger images if you search for the construction company and swimming ponds.

They have filtration systems like a pool, but they look like a beach.  Like your own, private beach.  Like you’re Edward Cullen with his Isle Esme except that your Isle Esme is in an American suburb and not Rio de Janeiro.

I love the ocean.  I’m less of a fan of ponds, lakes, or rivers — and I’m aware this is closer to a pond than Chincoteague — but I love the idea of being able to access something that resembles a beach in my backyard.

I think Josh is going to nix this idea.

My husband is the exact same way. He brings this up every summer, usually right after we have been to the beach. I keep telling him sand like that also attracts stray cats (they use the sand like a litter box).

Okay, I looked at the bigger pictures and that one with the boulder and the pebbles around it and the cabana thingie at the far end…that looks like a PERFECT compromise! It’s more like a swimming pool but still looks like a tropical lagoon, but without the sand that could get tricky in the winter climate (I saw he’s based in Louisiana). It’s such a soothing idea, but I do think of my friend who has a really cute water feature in her backyard but they keep losing their koi to hungry raccoons (and they have a nightvision camera thingie and see the carnage… sigh). But it’s so beautiful and relaxing looking! Ahhh, I’m going to go look at those photos again, I think they lowered my blood pressure.

My thought is you only live once and you would likely have the most amazing stories to share about constructing/interactions with neighbors/general laying by your own private beach. Plus I would want to come visit solely to see this marvel.

Tell Josh he’s welcome to blame me for encouraging you 😉

Oooooh, I want one too! Never been a huge fan of pools and I can’t even imagine the upkeep for this landscaping/water feature, but that is gorgeous! Alas, the homeowner’s association and my Josh also probably (okay, okay, certainly) agree with your homeowner’s association and Josh. Sigh.

The pictures are wonderful. Going to have to bookmark this for just the sheer thought of the thing!
