#Microblog Monday 194: Symbolism

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

Chalk up this story to twenty kinds of awesome: A library patron is confused because several of the books she picks up have the page number on page 7 underlined.  She asks the librarian, whose imagination runs wild to spy codes and secret messages until she discovers that the elderly patrons of the library have each chosen a symbol which will be their symbol for marking a book read.  That way, if they pick up the book again, they’ll know whether or not they’ve read it.

It’s like an offline GoodReads.  Because technically, if you know someone else’s symbol, you can also see who else has read the same book.  It’s not only a catalogue of your own read books, but it’s a way of seeing someone else’s read books.  At least, if you pick up the same book.

My symbol would be a little stick figure on the inside cover.  I’ve always wanted to get a stick figure tattooed on my ankle, and this would get that idea out of my system.

What would be your symbol?

Are you also doing #MicroblogMondays? Add your link below. The list will be open until Tuesday morning. Link to the post itself, not your blog URL. (Don’t know what that means? Please read the three rules on this post to understand the difference between a permalink to a post and a blog’s main URL.) Only personal blogs can be added to the list. I will remove any posts that are connected to businesses or are sponsored post.

Maybe a clown or a court jester’s hat. It’s an intriguing thought that I’ve never considered but those are the first things that come to mind. I like to think of myself as a jester and dressed up as one for Halloween once.

A small butterfly. 🙂 That would be my choice for a tattoo as well, if I ever decided to get one.

I’m not much of an artist, so I’d use a heart (have done this for years when doodles are needed for various purposes) because I like hearts and they are one of the few things I can actually draw. HA!

My graduate advisor initially started a lab library that had a turtle stamp inside each of the books. Given her cat was named Turtle, this made sense.

If we’re running with tattoo themes, I have a tiger on my back. So I guess mine would be a small cat face. Otherwise a simple leaf (veins included).

Where did I just read this? Did you post about it before?

I would make a teeny dot next to the tail of the 2 or top of the 7, so I could remain incognito. 😉

Mine would be an infinity symbol. I’ve always wanted that tatoo’d on me with strength written in it and a cross. As a reminder of how strong I am.

Hmm, I think mine would be a simple cherry blossom/flower discreetly on the bottom of the page that corresponds to my “lucky” number.

mhm, the impossible triangle. And I would definitely check who is on page 42. I would expect a few of my nerdy friends there.

Maybe my initial in Thai. Or my surname character in Chinese. Except I hate defacing books!

Tao! ☯

I’d aim for a dot on top of the ‘1’, so it looks like the head on a person. Did I mention I’m neither particularly artistic, nor particularly creative? 🙂

I love this! What a great idea, and I love that if you know everyone’s symbols, that you could see who else you could talk to about the book you’re reading. I would probably have a tiny little snake on the copyright page. I’d say an owl, because I can see the owl I’d draw in my mind, but when I try to draw things with my hands they just don’t come out the same and so snake it is! 🙂 In purple pen.

A doodle of a purple rose. A doodle. That’s the best I can do, and even that would be pushing my art skills a bit. 😀

14 Suzy { 05.15.18 at 6:18 am }

what an interesting concept. I think I would have a little star.

15 Inexplicably { 05.15.18 at 6:46 am }

Definitely a cat!

A frothy topped milkshake. 🙂
