Roundup Break (Sort of?)

It has been quiet this week online, so I decided to push the 675th Roundup off one week to next Friday.  I feel weird when I do this — I’ve been writing the Roundup since 2006, and I only skip it once or twice a year (and some years, not at all) — but it’s probably good to take a break once in a while, right?  Play a little sudoku.  Try out new vegan brownie recipes.  Clean all the post-it notes off my desk.

Or let’s try this: I’ll leave the Roundup up to you.  Leave links below to the best posts or Tweets or Instagram photos you saw this week.  We can all comb through them while we drink hot chocolate, and then regroup for a normal Roundup next week.

Sound like a plan?

I’m not going to choose one specific link but I have been rejuvenated reading stories of kindness from strangers. People making sure others have Christmas gifts, food, a place to go when it is sub zero, heroic animals – I love it all and it reminds me that while a lot of awful and upsetting things happened in the world this year, people are still good and kind and loving and we can make a difference by being good to one another.

Also – please share your good vegan brownie recipes. Yum!

Ok, I don’t know how to correctly link to a tweet (I saw it in another article I can’t find now, as I’m not on Twitter) but this guy Eddie Alderson, who is currently fighting cancer, tweeted Bruce Springsteen about how “No Surrender” has been his theme song during his cancer battle and that he was going to see Bruce on Broadway and wanted The Boss to sign “No Surrender” on his arm so he could get it tattooed, and after everyone re-tweeted it and tweeted Bruce about it, it actually happened! It’s a pretty cool story of hope and the good in humanity.

Sounds like a good plan! But now I’m going to have to go away and find the posts I read recently and enjoyed.

The Barreness has had me worried when she had to evacuate due to the fires in California. Her post about day 24 is thoughtful – about loss, and gratitude. http://the-barreness.blogspot.com/2017/12/day-24-end.html

I read this one a week ago, although it was written a bit earlier, so I hope it counts. Elaine is a blogger in German, but thanks to Google Translate in Chrome, I get to read her. Her post “When Without Children is Okay” made me really happy on Christmas Eve. http://www.elaineok.com/von-ohne-kind-zu-ok/

This might be a little late — but I am catching up on a backlog of blog reading, and Jess’s post about how she got her Christmas tree put a huge smile on my face!

I wish I`d read Sarah`s advent calendar post before Christmas, but I`m going to bookmark it for next year when I need a boost!
