Play Ball

The Wolvog’s baseball team made it to the “world series” game of the championship, that final showdown between two teams.  The championship games have been fun but stressful.  It was so exciting to win the first one, but the stakes felt higher and higher with each subsequent game.  This past one had my stomach in knots with a 12 – 10 win.  And now we’re at that ultimate game, the final game, and I can’t help but beg the universe to make the pitches be easy, the bat swinging be hard and the running be fast.

Please wish his team good luck.  Not that they need luck.  I mean, they rock; they try so hard.  But you know… we’ll take some luck too.

Good luck!

(But you’d better calm down – he’s got many years of this sort of thing ahead of him – and the Chickienob too. If you get this worked up, you’ll be institutionalized by the time they hit 4th grade!)

Good luck, Wolvog! You can do this! You can try your hardest, and you can swing/pitch the best you can, and you can walk away happy either way knowing that you tried your best.

Universe, please play nice for once.

I wish his team enjoyment. As I tell my team (college speech kids) there is nothing you can do about luck. You might be up against somebody really great or you might have a judge who seems to dislike you or you might get a run in your pantyhose right before a round. There is nothing you can do about that. What you can control is how you feel about yourself at the end. If you tried to do the best you could, if you remembered why you love this activity and enjoyed being in those moments, then you will leave happy. If everything is about winning, then you will never be happy because there will always be somebody coming up from behind you who is funnier or fresher or who dresses better. But you will always win if you have fun. (All that being said, GO WOLVOG! Kick some butt!)

I love IO’s comment. I think I need to print it out and hang it on my bathroom mirror. 🙂

I hope the Wolvog has a spectacular game.

Can he really be old enough to be playing in a game that counts for something?

Good luck, Wolvog. Your mother will adore you no matter what.

Wow! Good work, Wolvog & team. No matter what happens in this final game, what an honor it is to have made it so far along in the championships.

This is so exciting! For you, and for the Wolvog, who has such a wonderful cheering section.

Crossing my fingers — I’m just proud he and his team have played so well.
