Where I Was Today

After deep breathing through yoga today, after a yogurt and an hour to read some documents, I got in the car and trekked on down to a little house on Pennsylvania Avenue… that is white…

I got invited back to the White House for a roundtable discussion in the Roosevelt Room (yes, that one next to the Oval Office in the West Wing) on the Affordable Care Act.  Eleven women got to talk to Deputy Chief of Staff Nancy-Ann DeParle and Deputy Assistant to the President for Health Policy, Jeanne Lambrew.  Stories and pictures to come once I can untangle my brain and eat something.

I seriously have one of the coolest jobs in the world.  I never stop thinking that.

WOW!!!! The Roosevelt Room? Despite being a kiwi, I am a huge fan of West Wing, and I feel I can picture you there. Coolest job in the world.

K, I hate you.

Not really. I love you, you’re the coolest person I know, and I’m insanely jealous. I want you to get a Mary Poppins bag so that I can hide in it and come with you next time. Please? I promise I’ll stay in the bag and be quiet the entire time.

Oh, Mel. You go, girl. I never get tired of saying that to you. Got a little shiver when I looked at the pic of the house. Been reading about Lincoln and Grant. I think I’d just melt if I got to be there. You know. For work.

You are very right! That is one cool job. I hope you’ll share more about the process with us, as a social worker who is interested in macro level work I’d love to hear more about what it was like.

Ok, I’ve been lurking here for who-knows-how-long but had to peak out of the woodwork to say Nice Work on the cliff hanger there! I echo the previous commenters (and probably hundreds of other lurkers) who feel your coolness is pretty priceless. Love reading! Can’t wait for the details!

PLEASE tell me it was a roundtable to discuss women’s health issues and the current political climate which seems to be seeking to remove rights from women as it relates to choices and their bodies.

Because I am reading, and I am scared.

I can’t wait to hear about it.

xoxo

Cooler than that though is knowing that our officials are getting information from real people about how current and possible future policies are affecting us. You rock!

Just read your other post, too, with the details. Honestly, if anyone is going to the White House to speak on my behalf, I’m VERY glad it’s you. 🙂
