#Microblog Monday 363: Around the World With Lists

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

I am not normally a Buzzfeed reader, but I liked this post rounding up how things change as you move around the world in various categories.

For instance: tally marks. Was not aware there even was more than one way to make tally marks, but apparently, there are at least three. There are tons of food ones and animal ones. But also wedding dress customs, the way we respond to sneezes, and the monsters that haunt our stories.

Mentally travel without leaving home and learn that not all hedgehogs are alike.

#Microblog Monday 362: Carried Over

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

I just started a new bullet journal. It happens about every 1.5 years, so the last bullet journal was like 98% pandemic.

I have a section in the front of things I commonly forget and then drive myself bananas trying to remember. It’s a weird mix of things. The word “panopticon.” The name Simon Armitage. (I seriously just had to open the notebook and look that up. I don’t know why I cannot retain his name for longer than 30 seconds. I will forget it again by tonight.) A hotel we stayed in 19 years ago in London. I don’t need to know any of these things, but when I can’t remember something, I obsessively think about it. This is easier.

Each time, after I copy over the list, I add in anything that I want to remember from the last year or two. All the new stuff that has popped up in the previous bullet journal. So the section is now 12 pages long.

The funny thing in recopying it is that I will find the same thing on the list two or three times, as if I’m proud of myself for remembering it again… not realizing that I remembered it earlier.

#Microblog Monday 361: After Life Experience

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

I read about this project, the After Life Experience, and thought it was fascinating. You are tasked with coming up with a single memory to live inside forever. Even if you don’t want to contribute one, you can read/listen to the moments that other people chose.

It reminded me of seeing Tino Seghal’s These Associations. We took the twins when it was at the Tate Modern, and one of our first stories was so odd that they became obsessed with sticking around and getting another good one. As in we spent three hours at These Associations. But… the point is that it’s interesting to hear other people’s stories.

Take a listen to some of the stories if you have time on the After Life Experience. You can read without sound, or listen to the stories being read.

#Microblog Monday 360: La Mer

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

I was this many years old when I discovered that Bobby Darin’s “Beyond the Sea” was a copy of Charles Trenet’s “La Mer.” I discovered this when I downloaded an album of 100 Charles Trenet songs, and then found this copy of him singing it on YouTube. I love this performance. It sounds like the sea and kind of breaks my heart at the same time.

#Microblog Monday 359: Beach Pyjamas

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

I am totally here for old-timey beach pyjamas. I love swingy pants. Swingy pants on the beach is perfection. I am also here for hostess pyjamas.

Maybe I’m just here for pyjamas. Everywhere. All the time. As a fashion statement.

I am pro-pyjamas. Are you, too?
