Consumption 14
This is a monthly series, published near the end of the month summarizing what I found, ate, watched, googled, and felt this month. New categories added from time to time.
Books Added to My TBR (e.g., books I just learned about that I’m excited to read… maybe)
- Witch Trial (Harriet Tyce)
- This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me (Ilona Andrews)
- Hollywood, Ending (John Green)
- A Killer in the Family (Amin Ahmad)
- Dear Monica Lewinsky (Julia Langbein)
- Mom Brain (Nicole Hackett)
- Five (Ilona Bannister)
- London Falling (Patrick Radden Keefe)
- Big Little Truths (Liane Moriarty)
- The Ruling Class (Jennifer Lynn Barnes)
- Porcupines (Fran Fabriczki)
- Do You See What I See? (Peter Swanson)
- The Castle (Jon Ronson)
- Hopeless Romantics (Mhairi McFarlane)
Notable Meals (new recipes, old favorites, and restaurant items we ate this month)
- Matzo ball ramen (for Pesach): My matzo ball soup with curly rice ramen noodles, tofu, corn, ginger, nori, greens. It was so good.
- Salad of figs, candied pecans, butter lettuce, and burrata with a maple balsamic vinaigrette.
Television, Movies, and Music (watching and listening)
- Still working our way through the Richard Ayoade seasons of Travel Man. I love this show so much.
Added To My Ongoing Mix Tape
- “Love American Style” (The Cowsills)
- “Bill is Dead” (The Fall)
- “I Won’t Let You Go” (Robbie Boyd Band) – I bought this whole album many years ago, and it doesn’t seem to be on sale anymore plus the music video for the song has been removed from YouTube. Strange. I think it’s one of their best songs.
Tabs I Left Open (things I Googled and left up on the screen)
- The President’s Heads
- The V&A page for Hirsch Kutchinsky’s jewelry
- A recipe for vegan smørrebrød
- A Gizmodo article featuring the fictional life story of Christopher Plover, a character in Lev Grossman’s Magicians series.
- Rothy’s website with the page for the ReVelvet Cruiser Mary Jane
- National Theatre homepage and the listing for Summerfolk
Micro-Joys
- Finding out that Carla Hall has a vegetarian “chicken” option at her new restaurant Bumblebirds made out of oyster mushrooms.
Mood
- Rushed. I don’t wish there were more hours in the day, but I wish there were more days in the week.
What about you? Let me know what you’re eating, seeing, listening to, googling, feeling this month.

I’m not sure what’s wrong with me, but I saw “consumption” and I immediately thought of someone in the 19th century swooning and being declared they had consumption! lol I haven’t even read any books set there recently, though I did watch The Other Bennett Sister so maybe that explains it.
I love your lists. I have so many tabs open I couldn’t begin to tell you what is in them. That salad sounds amazing! And have you watched The IT Crowd with Richard Ayoade? We watched the first couple of seasons and enjoyed it. Very silly but funny.
