#Microblog Monday 486: Send the Picture

*******

I’ve been loving Deez Links’s hate reads. I don’t agree with all of them, and most I don’t have a strong opinion about, but this one I am firmly in agreement about: If you are the person who takes the group picture (or even a picture of a solitary person), send the picture. Do not say, “I just took the best photo,” and then not send the photo. Send the freakin’ photo.

I could not breathe reading this line because I was laughing so hard: “It feels humiliating to ask my friend to send them to me, to cop to an unspoken vulnerability (“I’d like to look at myself in case I look hot”) the same way buying a toilet plunger at 2 a.m. at the bodega alludes to urgent, obvious disaster.”

#Microblog Monday 485: Accepted Names

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

Why was I thrilled to find my name on the accepted names list in Iceland? It’s not as if I am from Iceland, I’m already named, and I’m not naming myself — or anyone else — in Iceland.

But I still checked to see if my name appeared on the approved list. And was super happy to find it.

Is your name on there?

#Microblog Monday 484: Sharing at Restaurants

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

I didn’t realize that I had feelings about sharing food at restaurants until I read this newsletter essay about sharing food at restaurants.

I am team not sharing. If I order X, I want X and do not want to feel like I also have to try or eat Y. I mean, yes, I’ve gone into situations where I plan with another person to split our two meals so we could each have half of the other option. But unless I’ve done that, I’m not inclined to choose X off the menu and then have someone tell me when it gets to the table that they’re going to take half of X, and in exchange, I can have half of Y (something I likely didn’t want).

So are you team sharing-is-caring or team I-ordered-what-I-wanted-to-eat?

#Microblog Monday 483: April Fools Grouchiness

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

Every year elevates me to a new level of crankiness about April Fools Day. Yes, the fake pregnancy announcements were worse ten years ago when it was possible for the vast majority of my Facebook feed to possibly get pregnant, whereas by now, it sounds so far-fetched that I scroll on by without pause, but it doesn’t make the holiday any less annoying.

It’s hard enough to figure out reality without adding a fake holiday into the mix for the sole purpose of creating more confusion.

Bah humbug, or whatever the equivalent is for April Fools Day.

#Microblog Monday 482: Handsome Podcast

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

I am extremely late to the game because the Handsome podcast started back in September, but my friend told me about it a few weeks ago. And as they say at the end of each episode, “Tell your friends.” So now I’m telling you.

I am not a podcast person—I don’t have a lot of time to listen to things, and I generally like quiet—but I have made an exception for the Handsome podcast. It’s Tig Notaro, Mae Martin, and Fortune Feimster talking about whatever is on their minds that week and answering guest questions from other celebrities, such as Brett Goldstein or Sarah Silverman.

At least one point in each episode, I burst out laughing. I’m bouncing between listening to the most current episodes each week and returning to September to listen to all the old episodes I missed. It’s such a fun hour.
