The Royal Baby is a… Boy?

The CNN news alert makes no mention of the sex of the baby except in a pronoun in the final sentence…

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, has given birth to the first child for her and Prince William.

The baby will be third in line to the British throne after Prince Charles and Prince William. He is the first grandchild of the late Princess Diana.

Does this mean the baby is a boy?

I saw another report that said it was a baby boy. 8 lbs 6 oz which I cannot imagine on her teeny tiny frame!

Whoa… big baby. Have they released a name?

My local Fox channel said boy. CNN – still leading in news reporting (*eyeroll*). Maybe they’re just extra, extra cautious with their fact checking these days (given the last few months, that seems like a sound plan) and are waiting until they see actual genitals before they commit.

Also, no name to be released until they leave the hospital. Possibly.

I am betting the name is George.

“Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 4.24pm.”

The baby is apparently a boy. I laughed at the fact that they said previously that they were not going to find out the sex ahead of time but the official announcement already had “son” printed. The only thing handwritten in was the time. So they already knew.

So the slip where she used a female pronoun was misdirection. She’s trick-sie.

I heard on NPR this morning that the odds were running in favor of “James” for a boy.

Yes, she is trixsie. And a boy it is, big bouncing boy. Will look forward to his name and then to get back to my regularly scheduled programming.

Actually, I believe they had two notices pre-printed and prepared ahead of time (one for each gender) and just used the correct one when the time came.

Alexander or Edward are my guesses.

Oooh, I love classic names. I would be happy with any of these so far: George, James, Alexander, Edward.

14 Sarah { 07.22.13 at 5:29 pm }

I am hoping they go with Henry 🙂

15 Lollipop Goldstein { 07.22.13 at 5:36 pm }

I so wanted the name Henry for the Wolvog, but Josh told me it was cruel to name a child Henry Ford.

He’ll have like 100 names, they all do.
James Edward William Henry Charles John…..

Henry Ford!

I’m betting on Odysseus ZOLTAN! Mungo Cambridge.

I love the name Henry! I wanted it for our second baby, alas, no go there! Jack despised it, however. There was a boy in daycare a few years back who slammed the spine of book into the spine of Jack… he did not think he could ever get over that.
However, I too think they’ll go with something traditional. George makes sense… so Kingly. I like James too… we have Jameses all over our family. I was sort of hoping for a girl so they could take those new regulations of first-born succession regardless of sex (I’m guessing that’s not the formal term) for a spin! Regardless, it’s sort of fun to watch an event such as this unfold on such a large scale.

Yes the baby is a boy.

I was watching/following this is a non-stalking way for a while.

What a frenzy, these last few days. I hope Kate and William did not let the hype get to them, Kate especially.

They won’t be announcing the name immediately, I think. And it will definitely not be something as Pilot Inspektor!

I like George, but they have too many of them already. Hopefully, Edward or some other classic name.

Laughing @ Henry Ford.

As a loyal subject to Her Majesty The Queen I am delighted along with the whole nation to welcome the future heir to her throne after HRH Prince Charles and HRH The Duke of Cambridge. Quiet speculation here is that the new baby’s names will include Philip in tribute to HRH Duke of Edinburgh.
An English Grandma 🙂

I’m hoping that some of this Royal Baby excitement in the US will start a resurgence of classic names over here. And spellings.

23 Aerotropolitan Comitissa { 07.23.13 at 8:53 am }

Oh my goodness, Henry Ford. I am glad Josh caught that one.

24 KeAnne { 07.23.13 at 11:08 am }

I don’t know how much of history the Cambridges are considering, but I don’t know if I’d want my son to be James III since the first two James weren’t all that stellar. Of course, Charles I & II weren’t either, and Prince Charles will be Charles III, so I guess it won’t matter.

I like George to honor the Queen’s father and Michael for Kate’s dad…George Michael LOL!

I love speculation on names!! I really wanted to use Lorelei but that would have made my daughter “Lorelei Secor” way to close to Laura Secord, lol!!

26 loribeth { 07.23.13 at 3:38 pm }

Journalism 101 fail. 😉

I hear George is the odds-on name favourite. I think it’s kind of a stodgy name to saddle on a little boy, but I’m sure it would please the Queen to name the baby after her late father.

27 Buttermilk { 07.23.13 at 4:28 pm }

*PISH* My baby was bigger AND he had more hair!

28 Lollipop Goldstein { 07.23.13 at 6:40 pm }

Still no name? I thought they were going to say the name as they left the hospital. Didn’t that happen?

29 Elana Kahn { 07.26.13 at 7:05 am }

Ugh. I don’t really like the name George. I wish they had named him Arthur! King Arthur ftw! 🙂

30 Battynurse { 07.28.13 at 4:15 am }

Lol on the Henry Ford. Yes classmates would have had a field day with that one. Working with babies I hear all sorts of names. Worst was a twin named Yur Majesty. The other twin had a totally normal name.
