Many, if not most, people die of cancer, or survive it, if they live long enough, and it is debatable if some things like alcoholism are due to genetics or environment. You might consider a free donor. Free donors who have managed to have a few kids (i.e., not someone who is helping out a friend in a one-shot deal, but has several donor children) are usually pretty smart, and usually aren't alcoholic or don't have serious mental issues, they have to be pretty high-performing to afford to be able to donate, and to impress recipients enough that they get chosen again and again. It isn't like a sperm bank, where the bank is selling the donor, as a free donor, you have to seel yourself. In a bank, their sperm have to freeze well, which not all men's sperm do, so you can see that you are paying a lot to get someone who freezes well, with no idea what he is really like in person, or how he has succeeded in life. Keep in mind also that banks cut the ejaculate, as many as ten times, then add tyb (test yolk buffer) so you may be getting only 0.5ml of sperm per straw, whereas with a free donor, you get all 5ml. So, banks advertise one price per straw, then when you come in the door, they tell you that you need to buy 2-3 straws to get pregnant. Still only 1.5ml of sperm compared to 5ml for fresh. And fresh works better anyway. Fresh from a free-range donor is much less expensive, chances of success are higher, and you really get to know the person. Good luck.
